McDonald's Philippines donates 613 old cell phones and accessories to i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program of Nokia, Globe, Ayala Foundation
McDonald's Philippines is the first local company to respond to the i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program of Nokia, Globe Telecom, and Ayala Foundation. McDonald’s Philippines donated 613 items composed of old cellular phones, batteries and accessories to the i-rEcover,i-rEcycle program launched recently by Nokia Philippines, Globe Telecom, Ayala Foundation and Philippine Tarsier Foundation, Inc. (PTFI). McDonald’s is the first local company to heed the call for the recycling project aimed at creating awareness on the importance of saving the environment and its endangered species.
“McDonald's Philippines and its employees are always conscious of proper waste disposal as we practice it in our stores and offices. One time, we saw a recyclable bin at the Globe Store in Market!Market! and thought of placing all of our old mobile phones and accessories there. However, we accumulated several boxes of them and decided to contact Ayala Foundation instead so we can do a single endorsement/turn over of the old phones,” Ivy O. Rafols, HR Benefits of McDonald’s Philippines said.
The i-rEcover, i-rEcycle program aims to attract the general public, including Globe and non-Globe subscribers, as well as Nokia and non-Nokia users, to donate old mobile phones by bringing them to the cellphone recycling bins located in Globe stores and at Ayala malls.
For every old mobile phone collected for recycling, Nokia will donate P100 to the PTFI to support programs for preserving the Philippine tarsier and its habitat. Anyone who donates a “complete” mobile phone (with battery) will also receive a Nokia Eco-item and a chance to win a Nokia C6 smartphone in a raffle draw.
The program will run from September 2011 to August 2012. Participants may visit any of Globe’s 140 stores nationwide or Ayala malls located in Glorietta, Greenbelt, Alabang Town Center, Bonifacio High Street, Market! Market!, Trinoma, and Metropoint Mall, Pasay in Metro Manila; and at Pavilion Mall in Biñan, Laguna; Solenad-Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; MarQuee Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga; Ayala Center Cebu; and Abreeza Mall Davao.
