Keeps leadership in on-the-go broadband solutions; sustains solid gains in home broadband

November 27,2014

Globe Telecom's broadband business is steadily chalking up market share, as evidenced by robust revenues generated in the first nine months of the year.

Closing the third quarter of 2014 on a consistent growth trajectory, Globe broadband business posted double digit growths in both revenues and customer base against the previous year. As of end-September, broadband service revenues climbed to P9.0 billion, up 16% from P7.8 billion last year. Broadband customer base hit over 2.5 million, a 36% growth from previous year's 1.9 million.

The impressive performance of Globe broadband business could be attributed to the availability of a wide range of product offers that best fit the customers' budget, needs and lifestyle, and the company's continuing efforts to invest heavily in strengthening its data infrastructure, says Gilbert Simpao, Globe Senior Vice President for Consumer Broadband Business. According to Simpao, Globe Telecom's estimated broadband business' market share more than doubled since 2008. Going forward, Globe expects to raise its market share in fixed wireless broadband, which is expected to grow significantly moving forward amid the steady demand for data connectivity.

Globe's wireless broadband services, which include Tattoo Mobile Broadband, posted a solid 42% growth in customer base, while Tattoo Home posted an 11% increase in the number of customers after the first nine months of the year.

The growing pervasiveness of the company's modernized and robust network have paved the way for another record performance for the Globe broadband business. The segment continues to drive overall business growth on the back of increasing demand for mobile and home internet connectivity.

Tattoo customers continue to enjoy upgraded home broadband bundles that give them more value for their money, with internet speeds of up to 3 Mbps starting at only P1299 per month. All home broadband bundles also came with a free landline that comes with unlimited calls to all Globe landline and Globe and TM mobile customers.

Meanwhile, Tattoo Mobile Broadband maintained its brand leadership in the segment as it provided tablet bundles that were offered for free or at an affordable cash-out on a prepaid or postpaid plan.

"Tattoo's consistent gains in revenues and customer base are proof that our commitment to product innovation and superior customer experience have resonated with our customers. We are optimistic that we will sustain the momentum as we close the performance year with our portfolio of offers that will continue to enrich the digital lifestyle of our customers, whether they're mobile or at home," said Simpao.

Bundling its services with exclusive and premium content, Tattoo ventured into a partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to allow customers to enjoy special edition plans and promos with access to NBA League Pass. Tattoo Home Broadband recently introduced their special edition Plan 1299 at 5 Mbps that comes with access to NBA League Pass and data allowance of 30 GB per month. With NBA League Pass, fans can watch NBA games live and on-demand at home through multiple devices. It comes with 7 days of NBA League Pass access via promo codes that customers may choose to use anytime within 30 days.

Existing Tattoo Home Broadband customers may also get the NBA League Pass as an add-on for only P299 per month.

The launch of the latest plans and content comes with the telco's expansion of its LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD footprint. Priority is also given to the expansion in Visayas and Mindanao with the activation of its first site in Lahug, Cebu City. The activation follows the signing of the partnership between Globe and Alcatel Lucent in Paris, France for the transformation of the telco's wireless network and infrastructure in central and southern provinces of the country.

This rollout is part of its continuing adoption of more advanced technologies such as LTE-CA (Carrier Aggregation) and LTE eMBMS (Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service) or LTE Broadcast, for better connectivity experience, higher network capacity, faster transmission speeds, addressing increasing demand for fast and reliable broadband service. In a recent demonstration conducted last April, LTE CA recorded a maximum speed of up to 230 Mbps.
