Multiple cybersecurity reports claim that the Philippines is increasingly becoming a hotspot of cybercrime attacks and threats. In 2015 alone, there were 781 recorded data breach incidents, a drastic increase to the 430 recorded data breaches of two years (2013-2014). A study by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies, titled the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) ranks the Philippines 16th out of 40 countries in terms of cybersecurity readiness.
