Globe myBusiness Tackles Importance of Educational Technology for Continuous Learning

In another installment of Globe’s Business Consultation Caravan, participants from the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) composed of  faculty and school administrators were able to gain useful insights on how to effectively implement digital learning and maximize its benefits with the right technology tools and infrastructure that they can integrate in their educational institutions.

“Much has been done and much still needs to be done, but I believe that working together through this webinar and other activities is a way to move forward,” said CEAP Executive Director, Mr. Jose Allan Arellano. “The pandemic has revealed to us the gaps and problems in our education system and the inequalities that exist in our society. We are being invited to address these issues for the sake of those who will be left behind.”

The panel of speakers for the webinar included Diana Ilishera Go, Head of Coaching and Capacity Building from the Center for Educational Technologies of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), Marvin Montes, Sales Head of Globe myBusiness, and Marz Fernandez, Regional Sales Head of Globe myBusiness with Jonathan Barrientos, ICT Account Manager from Globe myBusiness as the moderator.

Devising your institution’s mission continuity plan

As an example to the participants on what efforts their institutions can make for distance learning to be effective, DLS-CSB’s Diana Go shared Benilde’s mission continuity. Theirs was focused on enabling teachers in navigating new methods of teaching using technology.

“One of the strategies was to have our trainers/mentors—faculty members who are identified to be capable of teaching in an online set-up, assigned to other less tech-savvy faculty members who are going to be trained, so that they can keep up and won’t feel helpless in the transition.” Go explained.

Together with this, they also established their BeConnectED Training program, a fully online, self-paced training and certification course for teachers to help them become effective online teachers, and a new media production house that will assist them in creating their lecture videos, graphics, and materials. Go also shared what institutions will need on the journey towards digital transformation of the education sector: a carefully selected Learning Management System, IT infrastructure and equipment, a dedicated and skilled team, collaboration within the academe, and lots of research.

Challenges to online learning

Undeniably, the shift to distance learning poses a big challenge to the education sector. Different stakeholders have to work together in order to move forward and come up with solutions to ensure the continuous learning of students. Aside from policy makers and enforcers, decision makers play a crucial role in this matter.

As presented by Marvin Montes of Globe myBusiness, decision makers are educational institutions and educators. Schools have the duty to harness technology to ensure seamless operations and comply with government policies to ensure the well-being and safety of stakeholders.  Teachers/educators need to adopt flexible, constructive, and creative techniques to address students’ learning needs.

How Globe myBusiness recreates the way of learning

Even before the pandemic, Globe has been working with LGUs, schools, and other institutions to provide guidance and learning solutions. Now more than ever, it aims to create better learning experiences for students with the use of technology.

“Globe’s solid ecosystem of education solutions can address the factors that make distance learning difficult. We have various products and rich partnerships that will help us all to recreate the way we learn,” said Montes.

Globe myBusiness’ Marz Fernandez provided a rundown of these learning solutions that Catholic learning institutions can adapt to accelerate their digital transformation, from mobile, fixed, prepaid internet to cloud services, cyber security, and collaborative tools. “It's the best time to learn how Globe can help you adapt to the call of new normal in education,” Fernadez said to the participants.
