Globe Telecom Wins Bid to Aid Quezon City’s Home-Based Learning Program
Globe Business—represented by Vice President for Corporate and International Sales, Meanne Quiambao—attended the official contract signing with QC Mayor Joy Belmonte. The newly signed initiative will help the QC government expand internet connectivity to thousands of students and residents.
The Quezon City (QC) government granted the bid to Globe Telecom, to support students from 160 QC public schools with strong connectivity, suitable for safe, collaborative, and focused distance learning.
Through Globe Education Solutions, specifically, GovEducPlan and Managed Load Up, pupils from Grades 7 to 12 can benefit from the same quality of online education that private school students experience.
“As part of QC's learning continuity programs, it's crucial for us to ensure that all students have access to their education, most importantly during this period of disruption,” explained Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte. “We have over 430,000 public school enrollees. Most of them don’t have the means for online learning. It’s our duty to give the youth a chance for a better future and help them brave circumstances with the right tools and resources. We are fortunate to have partners like Globe who share the same goals as us. With their help, we’re able to provide students and the rest of our residents with the connectivity they need.”
Through its enterprise division, Globe Business, Globe has provided the QC government with 176,000 data SIM cards activated through Load Up, a secure web-based platform that can automatically seed internet prepaid credits to students, eliminating the health and safety hazards of going outside to reload.
Globe’s data plans for students are customized to help them concentrate on their school-related activities. The plan bans access to certain content and gaming websites to reduce the distractions that commonly arise with remote learning
To provide citizens with access to robust connectivity, QC also worked with GoWiFi, Globe’s public WiFi service, to deploy 1,000 WiFi hubs in the city’s various key locations such as barangay offices, schools, health centers, sports complexes, and more.
“These initiatives from the Quezon City government allow more Filipinos from all walks of life to gain access to the internet and enjoy digital experiences that should be made available to everyone,” said Peter Maquera, Senior Vice President for Globe Business. “Robust connectivity is the backbone of every successful venture, which is why Globe’s efforts don’t simply end with producing solutions that aid individuals and enterprises. We’re continually rolling out cell sites to build a first-world network that meets the standards of today’s digital economy.“
Quezon City has already made a head start into contributing to the country’s digital transformation. The government continues to support network expansions to provide more residents with improved internet connections. This includes the availability of Globe 5G in central business districts within QC.
Globe has set out to expand the largest network upgrade, heeding the call for enhanced internet services. Its roadmap includes expediting cell site builds, expanding coverage, and boosting data capacity. Globe is determined to fulfill these enhancements by 2021, with the goal of shaping a better future—one wherein more Filipinos and businesses are digitally-equipped to take on any challenge.
