Globe is aggressively pushing fiber-to-homes to more Filipino households as part of its unprecedented P70 billion expansion program this year to deliver world-class internet connectivity.

The company is deploying more than 1 million fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines this year to meet the rising demand for faster internet services and the new work from home requirements brought about by the pandemic.

As part of its home broadband modernization drive, all remaining copper lines of Globe will be upgraded to fiber, thus ensuring a better data experience and stable connection. Globe has been reaching out to its qualified Globe At Home customers connected to old and obsolete facilities that migration efforts are underway with no added cost to the customer. Fiber upgrades are being done for FREE by authorized Globe technicians. Once upgraded, customers can expect their modems to be upgraded as well. 

Globe has implemented additional safety measures given the ongoing pandemic, requiring its technicians and broadband specialists to undergo regular COVID-19 PCR testing before deployment. Service personnel have been trained on proper sanitation and social distancing measures, and are equipped with face masks, face shields, and other personal protective equipment along with their Globe uniforms and accredited IDs.

A fiber connection can provide a maximum speed of 1 Gbps compared to a copper ADSL’s maximum speed of 15 Mbps. A higher bandwidth translates to more capacity to download or upload large files faster, stream high-definition videos and webinars, and run multiple online programs simultaneously, among other benefits. This technology will ensure seamless connectivity for those working or studying from home. 

Unlike traditional copper cables which suffer from huge data signal loss over long distances, fiber only registers slight data signal degradation. These characteristics ensure consistent, stable connectivity.

Rolling out fiber to homes is part of Globe’s efforts to help the country achieve a #1stWorldNetwork. This also includes the nationwide upgrade of its mobile network from 3G to 4G LTE and deployment of 5G in more cities and provinces.
