Globe Empowers KonekTayo WiFi Communities with FREE 1GB Data to Cope with Lockdowns

Internet connectivity has become a necessity due to the accelerated digital adoption brought about by the pandemic, prompting Globe to look for ways to help hard-working parents and the youth in KonekTayo WiFi communities continue to earn and learn while at home.

Globe is providing one time FREE 1 GB worth of data consumable for five hours to underprivileged families in all 46 KonekTayo WiFi sites in Luzon and Visayas until August 31. This is to help those struggling with digitalization, especially amid the new rounds of lockdowns that further restrict people’s mobility.

“We understand that with the ongoing community quarantines, many residents in areas where KonekTayo-powered sites are additionally challenged to have access to affordable internet connectivity. While lockdowns limit them, their need for data remains constant. Through the FREE data, we hope to help ease their burden,” said Barbie Dapul, Vice President for Marketing of Globe At Home.

KonekTayo WiFi is a fast and secure community WiFi service that provides households with an affordable internet connection without needing a modem, a postpaid subscription, or mobile data.

Residents in KonekTayo WiFi communities simply need to connect to KonekTayo WiFi, register their number, and click the claim button of the FREE 1GB option.

Last June, Globe partnered with the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to provide KonekTayo WiFi services to about 40,000 housing beneficiaries in 100 resettlement sites nationwide.

Globe has also been active in launching its KonekTayo services across the country to deliver on its promise to make the internet accessible to enable Filipinos and make their lives sustainable, even as the health crisis continues to be a threat.

On top of the WiFi services, the telco has also committed to conducting ambassadorship training for the Globe Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which educates the youth on digital citizenship and the responsible use of technology through workshops and modules.

As face-to-face classes remain suspended, Globe also continues to help drive access to educational solutions, especially those in the disadvantaged and underserved sector.

Thus, Globe provides its customers with FREE access to the Globe e-Library and various online learning platforms, including the DepEd Commons, the Commission on Higher Education’s Phil-Connect, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Online Program.

With the help of KonekTayo WiFi, these programs are made accessible even to those that belong to the underserved market.

Globe remains committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is also committed to upholding the United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
