Globe’s 5G Network Most Available to Customers on 5G Capable Devices in Q1 2021

Globe says 5G network now covers 88% of NCR

Globe's 5G network is the 'most available' to customers on 5G capable devices in Q1 2021 according to Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® data.1 This metric represents the proportion of time users spent on Globe’s 5G network by users on 5G-capable devices.

Sustained fire ups and boosting of 5G sites, as well as the availability of affordable devices that allow customers to enjoy a better data experience, have contributed to the increased usage of this technology.

5G is the latest wireless internet connectivity that promises faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.

“We are happy that more customers are now adopting 5G technology so they can experience the advantages and benefits of 5G. Our customers are discovering the potential of 5G and how it improves their way of communicating, working, and making the most out of the opportunities available online especially in this time of the pandemic,” said Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, Globe Chief Commercial Officer.

5G’s unbeatable speeds and almost real-time latency opens a world of countless possibilities that Filipinos can look forward to as more and more areas are transformed into 5G-powered smart cities, delivering new experiences in retail, entertainment, gaming, and healthcare.

Globe is the pioneer in 5G technology in the Philippines, being the first mobile operator in Southeast Asia to commercially launch 5G AirFiber for Home use in 2019.

Based on Globe’s latest report, at least 88 percent of the National Capital Region now has Globe 5G outdoor coverage with Bonifacio Global City Central Business District (CBD) and Ortigas CBD having the highest coverage with similar 97 percent.  Makati CBD is third with 96 percent coverage while Pateros is fourth with 92 percent coverage. Globe’s 5G network is also available in at least 82 percent or more in 13 cities in Metro Manila.

5G is now accessible in 81 percent of Cebu City; 68 percent of Boracay Island; 67 percent of Bacolod City and 53 percent of Iloilo City.

In Mindanao, 5G is now available in 73 percent of Davao City and 72 percent of Cagayan De Oro City. Six additional 5G cell towers are also being installed in General Santos.

“We expect more installations of 5G cell sites for the remaining six months of the year as the demand for 5G technology will continue to rise even further,” Cabreira added.

Globe’s aggressive network builds and network modernization to 4G LTE and 5G has resulted in improved services to its customers nationwide.  According to Ookla’s Q1 2021 data, Globe remains the leader in mobile network consistency in the Philippines, with a nationwide consistency score of 70.43%, which is a higher percentage than its competition2. On a regional perspective, Ookla data also showed Globe with the highest mobile consistency scores in the following regions: Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Ilocos Region, Eastern Visayas, Bicol, MIMAROPA, Cagayan Valley, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) particularly UN SDG No. 9 that highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
