Globe, GCash Top Execs Named in Tatler’s 2021 Asia’s Most Influential List
Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu and GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon are among personalities on Tatler Magazine’s 2021 Asia’s Most Influential list, hailed as among the most innovative changemakers shaping the region through positive impact.
“The launch of Asia’s Most Influential is more than just releasing another list. It’s the first step in building a community committed to making Asia a place to thrive,” Tatler said in releasing its inaugural list.
Cu said the recognition is proof of the impact that Globe’s executives and employees make through hard work and the commitment to serve.
“This recognition shows how each member of the Globe family works relentlessly to create an impact on the lives of our fellow Filipinos through aggressive digital transformation. The Globe Group continues to harness the full potential of digitalization to enhance operational efficiency, provide better customer experience, and help the Philippines in its recovery efforts,” Cu said.
Assuming Globe’s top post in 2009, Cu’s “fail fast” attitude brought the company to success. He steered its massive modernization program, driving the company from being utility-centric to becoming a digital solutions platform. He also introduced numerous network and IT enhancements.
Last year alone, Globe, through its capital expenditure program, connected about 1.4 million fiber-to-the-home lines, built 1,407 new cell towers and over 2,000 5G locations, and upgraded 22,300 mobile sites. This allowed Globe to address the connectivity needs of Filipinos who shifted online for work, education, and other activities due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Sazon leveraged more than 20 years of leadership experience across industries, including 12 years in various segments in Globe, to lead the exponential growth of GCash. The country’s leading e-wallet, a Globe affiliate, now has 51 million users and 73,000 merchant partners.
In 2020, Globe appointed Sazon as CEO of Mynt, the operator of GCash, due to her innate ability to transform organizations, pioneer and execute breakthroughs that lead to sustainable results.
“Sazon has a proven track record in multiple areas and industries such as consumer and business, food, health, financial, technology, telecommunications, and more,” Tatler said, citing the executive’s more than 20 years of experience in general management, marketing, and sales.
In response, Sazon said Tatler’s recognition serves as inspiration as she continues to shepherd the Philippines’ only unicorn to greater heights.
“It is a great honor to be included in Tatler’s inaugural list of Asia’s Most Influential. This further fuels my fire to continue innovating and giving GCash customers digital solutions that can improve their lives and address challenges brought by the pandemic,” Sazon said.
It took Tatler’s editorial and management teams a good part of the year to come up with people who fit the criteria of Asia’s Most Influential, making a selection across 19 categories, from arts to finance to sustainability, for its debut roster.
Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 9, which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
