Two Suspects Nabbed for Illegally Selling Globe At Home Modems

Two illegal sellers of Globe At Home LTE broadband modems were recently arrested in a joint entrapment operations conducted by the Globe Security and Anti-Fraud Investigation team and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Tarlac City. The arrest comes amid Globe Telecom’s intensified drive versus fraudsters and thieves, which is intended to protect customers from illegal activities involving its products and services.

Patricia Ann Miller, 26, and Edwin Buniag, 26, were charged with violation of Republic Act No. 8484, otherwise known as the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998, for illegal sale of Globe Telecom modems. RA No. 8484 protects the rights and defines the liabilities of parties in such commercial transactions by regulating the issuance and use of access devices.

Investigation revealed a systematic modus operandi wherein Miller and Buniag – who have no connection with Globe or any of its contractor – managed to buy Globe modems and antennae online, collect the items, then resell these to prospective customers. Police authorities seized a total of 12 units of Globe LTE modem and 14 units of LTE antenna from the suspects.

Globe warns potential buyers of these hacked devices as the company constantly monitors its network and is able to disconnect and disable fraudulent connections immediately without notice. “We value fair trade and equity of service among all our customers. We call on our customers to immediately report to authorities any suspicious activities similar to or resembling this incident,” Globe said.

The company has been working in close coordination with police authorities and online buy-and-sell stores to stop the illegal sale of Globe Telecom modems and its other products. Globe emphasized that appropriate criminal charges will be filed against those who engaged in illegal sale of its products and services.
