Globe further strengthened its partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) by enabling the agency to expand its upskilling program for displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) through communications solutions. According to the Department of Labor and Employment, since the COVID-19 outbreak a year ago, the government has already repatriated 410,211 displaced OFWs as of January 16, 2021, and 60,000 to 80,0000 more are estimated to be repatriated this year.
Both partners share the vision of making TESDA services more accessible through technology-based initiatives. Thus, Globe provides assistance to TESDA in the form of prepaid load to scale the promotion of online learning under the Abot Lahat ang OFWs Program. The prepaid load cards will be used to reach out to OFWs to promote the programs, and to validate if existing beneficiaries have completed their training.
TESDA Director-General, Secretary Isidro Lapeña expressed his gratitude to Globe Telecom for their donated communication tools. “TESDA is doing its best and will continue to intensify its program that focuses on reskilling and upskilling of returning OFWs to help rebuild their livelihood. With the help that Globe has given us, the services of TESDA will certainly go closer to our OFWs,” he assured. Lapeña added that he is glad that TESDA is in close coordination with the OFW community which makes it easier for the agency to formulate effective programs for them.
Abot Lahat ang OFWs program offers scholarships and retooling to returning OFWs and their dependents. Through the program, the OFWs and their family will be able to access services that the agency offers by simply registering through the TESDA website.

Earlier, Globe also zero-rated the TESDA Online Program (TOP) website for all Globe and TM customers, allowing them to visit the site without incurring any data charges and even if they do not have any prepaid load. TOP offers free online courses such as Computer Systems Servicing National Certificate, Food Processing, Bread and Pastry, Housekeeping, and other courses from sectors such as automotive, agriculture, entrepreneurship, healthcare, among others.
TESDA is intensifying its reintegration program for returning and former OFWs. In 2020, a total of 86,100 OFWs and their dependents have enrolled in TESDA's online training program. Globe and TESDA expressed confidence that the partnership will help significantly increase the number of beneficiaries this year.
