The 7-day workshop will happen on Globe Prepaid’s Virtual Hangouts, where leaders from various industries will discuss a wide range of topics that push 5G technology and innovations for reinvented experiences and real-world applications. Access the full list of topics and schedules.

“Globe acknowledges the immense creativity of today’s youth. To enable them further, we support their innovative mindset through the resources we have, so they can also give back to the community around them through real-world solutions. We want them to learn what 5G can do and how to utilize it to its full extent to benefit the community,” said KD Dizon, Globe Head of Mobile Business.

There are three main areas in which Globe encourages participants to contribute to nation-building using technology:  5G for society specifically education, healthcare, and livelihood; 5G for industries such as retail, manufacturing, logistics, and e-commerce; and 5G for Smart Cities, mainly on disaster risk management, sustainability, asset and resource management, and transportation.

Ten teams with the best ideas will be selected to present and demonstrate their prototype in the 2-week hackathon following the workshops and pitch competition. The top three winners receive a cash pool worth half a million pesos, get a chance to turn their ideas into a business venture under 917Ventures, the corporate venture builder arm of Globe, and have the opportunity to work directly with Globe’s 5G Acceleration Lab.

5G is the latest breakthrough in wireless technology and is 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G network. It is also a universal platform that makes other innovations possible such as self-driving cars, remote surgeries, drone deliveries, automated warehouses, smart cities, among others. Globe continuously expands its reach and uses the latest technologies to improve the network experience of its customers in order to deliver a #FirstWorldNetwork to all Filipinos.
