Here’s what you need to prepare during the 20-hour binge of the Harry Potter movies

Here’s what you need to prepare during the 20-hour binge of the Harry Potter movies

Good news, Potterheads! The magic is coming straight from the wizarding world and into our homes! We’re all bracing ourselves for that intense 20-hour binge watch, so we’ve come up with a checklist of things to do before, during and after we marathon all eight movies.

1.  Get cozy at The Nook.

Before you begin that binge watch, make sure that you’ve got a comfy seat and a glass of Butter beer within reach. The Nook at Maginhawa is the first and only Harry Potter-themed café in Metro Manila. Order a warm cup of Espresso Petronum and curl up with your laptop—but not before admiring the broomstick (we suspect it’s a Nimbus 3000) hanging across some totally awesome Hogwarts and Hedwig murals.

Stay a bit longer and maybe you can learn to cast some spells with your wand. And don’t worry if you don’t have one—you can borrow one from the counter!

2. Order your copy of The Cursed Child

Every Potterhead knows that the magic lives on long after Deathly Hallows. The Cursed Child, released in bookstores in late July, takes us 19 years after Harry’s final showdown with Voldemort. If you don’t have a copy yet (and if your marathon’s got you glued to your couch), you’d be thrilled to know that National Book Store and Fully Booked’s online stores will deliver yours to your doorstep. Just like pizza—but why not order both?

For on-the-go Quidditch players who like traveling light, you can purchase your e-copy at the Pottermore website. Just don’t read and fly!

3. Play a game of Quidditch.

Speaking of quaffles and bludgers, break times between movies can be spent seeking that golden snitch! Compete in a Gryffindor vs. Slytherin match, or just practice defending your house’s hoops. These fun fan-made games are cute and simple, so we don’t promise an intricate gameplay or advanced graphics. But in case you run into Oliver Wood on campus *fingers crossed*, best be prepared!

4. Listen to the music behind the magic.

From the official Harry Potter film scores to fan-made songs, Spotify can transport you straight to Diagon Alley or to the Chamber of Secrets. Feeling a bit adventurous? Listen to Flight with Buckbeak. Sick and tired of that bully who won’t get off your back? Put on your headphones and have a listen to Umbridge Spoils a Beautiful Morning.

If you’re not in a very musical mood but still want to rest your eyes halfway into your marathon, MuggleCast and PotterCast are popular podcasts that you can download onto your mobile devices. Enjoy thought-provoking discussions about the books, interviews with J.K. Rowling and the movie cast, and up-to-the-minute news about latest releases! The best part about these podcasts? They’re absolutely free.

5.  Book your next trip to Hogwarts.

Come on. You know you want to! After finishing the eight movies, watching Harry get sorted into Gryffindor, Ron and Hermione slowly fall in love (sorry, #DraMione fans!), and bawl your eyes out at the end credits—you’d want to buy your tickets to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Osaka, Japan or Orlando, Florida. Chug down authentic butter beer, buy yourself some brand new robes, and finally pick out your wand. After all, you never know when your Hogwarts letter will come in the mail.
