6 Albums We Can’t Wait to Stream: February 2022

Noteworthy new releases in February feature Avril Lavigne, Tame Impala and more

A new month means new stuff to stream; and in music, fresh releases include hotly-anticipated music videos, collaborations, live performances (abroad, at least) and more. The main events in music include, of course, album releases that usher in a brand-new chapter for artists, both up-and-coming and established. What does February have in store? Scroll through to find out.

The Kick by Foxes

February 11

English singer-songwriter Louisa Rose Allen (AKA Foxes) is back this month with a new studio album. The Kick, released under PIAS Group, is her first full-length project since dropping All I Need in 2016, so fans can expect more than just an updated sound. Allen’s grasp on the art of storytelling is something to look out for, too. “Most of the music is a celebration but some of the music comes from a painful place, of loss and heartbreak,” shares Allen. “I felt trapped and almost like my insides were dancing but I couldn’t express it, but in writing it allowed me to feel free again.”

The Slow Rush B-Sides & Remixes by Tame Impala

February 18

Kevin Parker-led music group Tame Impala are set to revisit their 2020 album The Slow Rush by dropping a deluxe box set edition featuring never-before-heard B-sides and remixes. The project with Interscope Records also comes with a physical release: a 2xLP package featuring exclusive artwork, a 40-page booklet and a 2050 calendar, all available online for preorder.

As I Try Not To Fall Apart by White Lies

February 18

With the title track already out, the new chapter of English indie-rock band White Lies begins well ahead of their sixth LP. As a follow-up to their 2019 studio album Five, As I Try Not To Fall Apart explores storytelling that is raw and, according to the band, “written from the gut and the heart, not with the head.”

“We wanted the melody to feel like a hymn, to give the confessional lyrics weight despite being wrapped up as a pop song,” the band further shares in an official statement. “It’s about accepting vulnerability as a man, and knowing it’s ok to be broken. There’s never been a more pressing time to spread the message that it’s ok to not be ok.”

Space Island by Broods

February 18

As a prelude to their upcoming fourth studio album Space Island, siblings Georgia Josiena Nott and Caleb Allan Joseph Nott of Broods greeted 2022 with a memorable new single “Like a Woman.” The successful release is a preview of what’s to come on February 18.

“Space Island, the album, will take you through the wild terrain of love and loss and then tuck you into bed and kiss you on the forehead,” the duo shares on Twitter. “Come with us [through] a three-part short film through the world of Space Island. We are not alone in our isolation.”

Love Sux by Avril Lavigne

February 25

The original punk princess of the 2000s is here for her long-awaited comeback. For Love Sux, out February 25, Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne has once again partnered with long-time collaborator and friend Travis Barker for what could only be the triumphant new frontier of pop punk.

“We spent a lot of time writing songs and working on this record together, and signing to his record label felt like the perfect home for me and my new music,” says Lavigne about her stronger work relationship with Barker. Taking her sound in a more mature yet contemporary direction, Love Sux is also where tracks with Machine Gun Kelly and Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus are featured. This year, the pop-punk revival is in full swing.

Strawberry by Caroline Loveglow

February 25

Following a string of singles and her EP Blue Arcade in 2021, new-artist-to-watch Caroline Loveglow is up for her next milestone: her debut studio album Strawberry, released under 100% Electronica. “Caroline’s music offers a lifeline to those who, like herself, spend a lot of time in their heads, grappling with the weight of indecision and self-doubt,” the label says of Loveglow. “This new music feels like a direct message to anyone trying to find their way. Steady and dreamlike, her songs offer solace.”
