Black Mirror

As show creator Charlie Brooker perfectly puts it, the “black mirror of the title is the one you’ll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone.”

With a new case and story every episode, Black Mirror is a reflection of the relationship between technology and our society in an unattractive and sometimes horrifying light.

Sense8

The title stems from eight strangers living completely different lives all over the world who suddenly find themselves “sensing” each other. An American policeman suddenly finds himself in the same room as an Icelandic DJ. A Mexican actor closes his eyes and sees himself looking at a Korean businesswoman. An Indian pharmacist blinks and sees the life of a German criminal. A transwoman hacker sees a minibus driver in her car.

They don’t know how or why it’s all happening, but they need to work together to escape an evil corporation that’s tracking all eight of them down.

The OA

A blind young woman who had been missing for seven years suddenly returns—with her sight somehow having been restored. She either does not remember what happened to her or simply refuses to describe the events of her seven-year gap. While some people believe she is a miracle, others worry that she could be dangerous.

 Stranger Things

The uneventful town of Hawkins, Indiana is turned upside down when a 12-year-old boy, Will Byers, suddenly goes missing. Set in the 1980s, Will’s family, friends and the police chief go on a search for him, and separately begin to unearth and experience a chain of very strange, supernatural things.

 Between

An unknown disease spreads in a small town and kills everyone over 21-years-old. As a result, the government put the town under siege and quarantined a 10-mile diameter area. This leaves the young survivors of the town to fend for themselves and try to escape the prison that was imposed on them.

The 100

Before a nuclear apocalypse destroyed the Earth, about 2,400 people were in 12 space stations around the planet’s orbit. They all came together to form the “Ark,” a giant space station to help each other survive.

After 97 years of living in space, the leaders of the Ark send 100 “expendable” juvenile prisoners in a last-ditch attempt to find out if humans can reclaim the Earth.

Binge-watch all these sci-fi thrillers guilt-free through Netflix, the streaming platform that allows Globe subscribers to indulge in thousands of TV series, films and documentaries on the go. Subscription to Netflix is required. Get the app on Google Play for Android or the App Store for Apple.
