We’re Totally Crushing On Riverdale’s Newest Hottie

Charles Melton already has us swooning

When an actor has to be replaced in an ongoing series, the general feeling is not a positive one. Needless to say, we were a little disappointed to learn that Ross Butler was leaving Riverdale—even if it meant more onscreen time for him as Zach on 13 Reasons Why. We are, however, pleased that Charles Melton is taking his place as Reggie Mantle.

He may not be a household name yet, but Charles has had his fair share of onscreen time. He played womanizer Mr. Wu in American Horror Story: Hotel. He also appeared in the New New York episode of Glee as Sam’s roommate. Sure, he was only on a few episodes in both series, but he definitely caught our eye from the very beginning.

He has the brooding thing going on, which we think will transfer wonderfully onscreen. Just imagine those eyes digging into your soul, or throwing daggers at KJ Apa’s Archie.

Plus his body is like a gift and this is perfect since Reggie is supposed to be fit and football varsity-ready. We dare say that Charles might even give KJ a run for his money in this department.

We also love that the Riverdale producers decided to stand by their decision to represent the Asian-American community with Reggie. Ross is thrilled, too, btw and completely supports Charles in his upcoming challenge.

There’s no official word on this yet, but Charles’ participation on Riverdale might finally mean that Reggie will become a main character on the show. Ross’ schedule was packed because of 13 Reasons Why and Charles might be able to put in the hours necessary to make the character more prominent.

We’ll definitely miss Ross on the show, but we’re thrilled that Charles will be portraying Reggie moving forward. We can’t wait to see what he does with the role. You can catch the entire first season of Riverdale on Netflix.
