Globe Celebrates BLACKPINK's Birthdays with Design-Your-Own Cupsleeve Events

Reinventing the K-stan experience, even at home

Cup sleeve events are a staple in K-pop fandoms. In case you’re not familiar, these are fan gatherings usually done to celebrate idol birthdays, group anniversaries and concerts. These are held in coffee shops or food establishments, where attendees get exclusively-designed cup sleeves for free if they purchase a drink from the place the organizer partnered with. This is also another opportunity for them to mingle and make new friends.

But, like other mass gatherings such as concerts, these events have to be put on hold due to the pandemic. It’s a bummer for fans that they won’t be meeting each other and celebrating together for a while. Nonetheless, the fun of birthdays doesn’t stop just because everyone is at home! Globe and Kmmunity PH changed this entire experience for Filipino BLINKs.

Aside from bringing BLACKPINK closer to their Filipino stans through their partnership, Globe is reinventing the fun of fan events for BLINKs while keeping them safe at home. Together, they celebrated BLACKPINK’s birthdays with design-your-own cup sleeve events.

No birthday was skipped. The first event was held on January 22, which was a joint event for BLACKPINK members Jennie and Jisoo. That day, artist Allyana Leizel guided them in designing their cup sleeves. During Rosé’s birthday event last February 11, Jenna of Heart Cheeks Studios led the arts session. The most recent design-your-own cup sleeve event was for Lisa’s birthday last March 27, which featured Haina Salik.

How do these virtual cup sleeve events work, exactly? Through Globe Virtual Hangouts, prepaid users pre-register for the event via the GlobeOne App. These participants are selected to join the exclusive Zoom call and sent a cup sleeve kit, which contains coloring materials, blank cup sleeves, a paper coffee cup, instant coffee and additional sticker freebies.

Though the fun isn’t exclusively theirs! The designing session is live-streamed via Globe’s Facebook page, so anyone can hop in and join the session. During the stream, the guest artist guides everyone in bringing life to their cup sleeves with the coloring materials available. BLINKs were able to show off their artistic skills while having fun with each other! 

Meanwhile, non-registrants and fans can still participate by downloading and printing their own cup sleeve templates and taking part in the chat parties and parlor games. Lucky commenters also get a chance to win amazing prizes, such as GCash load and BLACKPINK merch. Talk about having fun all together!
