It’s Been 7 Years Since Easy A Premiered: See The Cast Then and Now

The film is officially as old as a first grader

It’s a tale for the ages:

Things for 17-year-old Olive Penderghast’s (Emma Stone) begin to spin out of control when a little white lie of hers makes its round in her high school—picking up majorly exaggerated embellishments along the way.

Once an under-the-radar, squeaky-clean teen, Olive now has no choice but to navigate through high school life with a reputation she never had the intention of living up to. Her expectations? A plot likened to John Hughes’ Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or perhaps The Breakfast Club. Instead her reality mirrors Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter,” a coincidental required reading in her English class.

The fictional novel from the 1850’s is given new life in this light-hearted take on the high school rumor mill, identity crises, repentance and the importance of dignity. Hopping through the generations, these life themes and lessons are still relevant today. Easy A, seven years later, is definitely worth revisiting.

We digress: it’s hard to believe that those who enjoyed this teen comedy are now well into their late 20’s and early 30’s (it feels like it was only yesterday Stone gave us that sashay and “Ooh, burn!” line.)

In the movie, Olive’s best friend Rhiannon asks her if she’s in love with George (Olive’s imaginary one night stand.) Olive then says she’s not a Gossip Girl, a line improvised by Emma Stone and a nod to her love interest in the movie, Penn Badgley. He plays Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl.

Amanda Bynes (Marianne)

Bynes has kept a low profile since filming Easy A, her last known film project. Following a rough four years battling an alleged substance abuse problem, Bynes now says she’s sober and ready to start acting again.

Olive: So it's his choice that he's a fourth year senior who can't pass any test he takes?

Marianne: No, silly. [points to the sky] His. His, with a capital H. If God wanted him to graduate, then God would have given him the right answers.
