Valentine’s Day is coming up, but no one ever says only couples can have fun on February 14 anymore. Truth is you don’t need a spouse or significant other to enjoy heart’s day; just stay at home and celebrate Single Awareness Day instead. Camp Sawi

If you recently became single or are still nursing a broken heart, Camp Sawi may just be the movie for you. Starring Bela Padilla, Arci Muñoz, Yassi Pressman and Andi Eigenmann, these four ladies show us the different ways to come to terms with a broken heart and singlehood. 

With the help of the camp coach played by Sam Milby, they seek to move on from their previous relationships. What makes this movie great is how it presents the genuine pain of heartbreak while still uplifting it with moments of relief, joy and comedy.

Sid and Aya: Not A Love Story

Dingdong Dantes plays Sid, a brash and wealthy stockbroker with insomnia, who hires Anne Curtis-Smith’s Aya, a bubbly waitress holding down multiple jobs to make ends meet. The job? Keep him company on sleepless nights. 

The movie maintains that it is not a love story despite the growing closeness and attraction between the two. Instead, it chooses to focus on the reality of class divides, unexpected situations and having what seems to be the right things at the wrong times.

The Breakup Playlist

True to its title, The Breakup Playlist opens with the separation of its main characters, Piolo Pascual and Sarah Geronimo. The rest of the film jumps through the various points of their relationship, from when they first met to when they first started to fall in love and to the eventual rise of friction between the pair. 

This film is for those who believe in sentimentality and remembering the good times despite the losses that follow.

That Thing Called Tadhana

This film is quite literally the trip for its main characters Mace (Angelica Panganiban) and Anthony (JM de Guzman). It follows two strangers who become travel buddies as they navigate the messy aftermath of Mace’s fresh breakup and Anthony’s own emotional baggage against the backdrop of Baguio. 

Needless to say, the movie succeeds in highlighting the struggles of moving on and how some things are really just fated after all.

I’m Drunk, I Love You

Don’t let its title fool you; this flick is definitely on the list for movies for singles. I’m Drunk, I Love You follows college students Dio (Paulo Avelino) and Carson (Maja Salvador) as they embark on an impromptu road trip to a music festival. As their story plays out, we witness Carson’s seven-year-long crush on Dio finally reach a critical point. 

With poetic visuals and a distinctly Filipino soundtrack—made with a mix of classic OPM and contemporary indie singles—you’ll find yourself captivated by this film. You may even relate to its too-familiar story of unspoken feelings, removing the rose-colored glasses of infatuation and ultimately choosing to be kinder to yourself.
