Girlboss Premieres On Netflix Today So Here’s Everything You Need To Know
There’s a new show in town
Even if you’ve never read the book, we’re sure you’ve heard of Girlboss in one way or another. Well, the show is now on Netflix and we suggest you put it at the top of your must-watch list. The official trailer has been watched over a million times on YouTube and you should check it out now if you haven’t already.
It’s based on the life of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso.
As the trailer says, Girlboss is loosely based on true events from the life of Sophia Amoruso, who went from eBay selling and dumpster diving to owning a multi-million dollar company. The series stars when Sophia (portrayed by Britt Robertson) needs to escape an eviction notice taped to her door.
It’s perfectly set in San Francisco
Think 2006, when things were simpler and easier. Then add the picturesque landscape of San Francisco. Add to that a few details that range from vintage stores to dive bars and questionable apartments. It paints a picture, doesn’t it?
The idea is that the styling of the location mirrors Sophia’s own eye for aesthetic.
It’s 13 episodes long
The first season of Girlboss has 13 episodes, and follows the downward and upward spiral of Sophia. From realizing she has a knack for “flipping clothes” to losing her customer’s trust and to trying to take control of her life yet again.
It’s being worked on by some of the best in the business
Charlize Theron has played an active role in marketing and producing the Netflix original, largely because it’s being worked on by her production company, Denver & Delilah. The script was written and executively produced by Pitch Perfect’s Kay Cannon and How To Be Single director Christian Ditter.
It’s total #GirlPower but still relatable
Kay went on board because she was “starving to create a story about a woman.” She said that most shows and movies seem to focus on a flawed man and we understand why she thought it was time to put a woman in the ring as well.
However, Charlize made it clear that while Girlboss paid an homage to Sophia’s life, it was her “love affair” with “flawed and f***** up characters” that really got her hooked on the story.
