Lutong Bahay: The Tribute to Share with Mom on Her Special Day
Ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday comes an early celebration of moms—and mother figures—everywhere
Globe presents Lutong Bahay, a heartwarming tribute that speaks to the Filipino youth’s coming of age, a mother’s tireless guidance and, of course, the thing that binds most Pinoy relationships together, food.
In this story, we meet Andoy, a teenager who is hoisted in between the real world and the comforts of a life sheltered by family and familiarity. He’s home away from home for the first time in his life and feeling his way through his first year at university. His mother, Mama Myrna, grapples with the fact that for the first time, too, she’s left to care for her son only at arms-length and must let Andoy take care of himself, by himself.
Through the mastery of a home-cooked meal from his mother’s native Pampanga, Andoy learns timely, valuable life lessons: on patience, quiet determination and the beauty of trusting the process. Much like Mama Myrna’s recipe for the perfect bowl of Sinigang sa Kamias, Lutong Bahay is a delicious reminder that great things take time.
Here’s to daunting milestones made better by mom and life lessons made better with her cooking. A very Happy Mother’s Day from us at Globe.
