Meet Marvel’s New Breed of Heroes
Introducing, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger
We all love a good superhero production. There’s the costumes, the high-flying action, the larger-than-life combat scenes that jump from one point of the city to the other. Every element is a scene-stealer, filled to the brim with the fantastical.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, the freshest comic-turned-series on our radar, brings something different to the table. Yes, there’s a hero-driven plot and power-wielding characters. But it goes far beyond that. Fearlessly tackling issues like drug abuse and racism, Cloak & Dagger keeps a foot rooted in reality even when surrealism kicks in. The show’s unlikely heroes, two teenagers portrayed by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, shed light on these topics while trying to understand their powers to their full extent.
Cloak: Tyrone Johnson
Tyrone lost his younger brother when the latter was shot at by a policeman. Since the loss of his sibling, he has been trying to match up to his parents’ high expectations. However, another side of him, one ridden with flickering anger, lingers below the surface. With the ability to open up an alternate dimension and engulfing others in darkness, Tyrone attempts to figure out his superpowers alongside Tandy.
Dagger: Tandy Bowen
Unlike Ty who feels the need to live up to the world’s demands, Tandy is a runaway. The pilot episode offers a peek into her childhood, her drug-addicted mother and her need to fend for herself as she grew up. Tandy’s newfound powers, which allow her to emit daggers of light, also counter Tyrone’s.
