Marvel’s Iron Fist Is Out This March And Here’s What You Need To Know

Finally, the last Defender arrives

At last, the last of The Defenders is coming to everybody’s favorite streaming service Netflix. Danny Rand/Iron Fist, played by Finn Jones is a billionaire Buddhist monk and martial arts expert. He’s gifted with the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist, but his story is unlike any other rich guy turned superhero.

Danny Rand lost his parents at age 10 in a family expedition to the mystical city of K’un-Lun. He would’ve died, too, if not for the denizens of Ku’n-Lun who took him in. This where Danny Rand would spend 15 years of his life: living in a monastery and training to ultimately become the Iron Fist.

Danny would later return to New York City as the Iron Fist to find his identity and reclaim his family’s company, which is now run by his father’s business partner, the Meachum’s. And as with any plot, it’s never without challenges or super villains.

#1 Iron Fist isn’t exclusive to a single man. In fact, they say 65 others have assumed the role of Iron Fist making Danny Rand the 66th to claim the name. Interestingly enough, Danny’s predecessor, though not heavily explored in the comics or in the series, was the man who raised his orphaned father Wendell, Orson Randall.

In the comics, Wendell expressed his interest in becoming the next Iron Fist thus, the expedition to K’un-Lun (with his wife and son, Danny in tow).

#2 Iron Fist is the Immortal Weapon of K’un-Lun.

#3 Every superhero has an enemy and Iron Fist’s takes the form of the Steel Serpent or Davos, the son of the martial arts master Lei Kung the Thunderer. Coincidentally, Lei Kung also trained Danny to become the Iron Fist. But between Danny and Davos, the former would take on the title.

#4 Danny Rand and Luke Cage are besties and proof dates back all the way back to the ‘70s.

#5 It’s not easy to become Iron Fist. One must first defeat the fire-breathing dragon Shou-Lao the Undying to earn the title. At age 19, Danny took on and slew the beast.

Iron Fist premieres on Netflix March 17, 2017.
