Like most everything else, entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all situation. What someone likes, the person right next to them might not—that’s why so many movies and series come out at any given month of the year. 

Fortunately, there’s a range of anime to watch right where we want it, no matter what type of person you are: Netflix.

Romantic

The Ancient Magus’ Bride

Since she’s ostracized by both her relatives and her community, orphaned Chise Hatori decides to sell herself at an auction. The goal? For someone to take her in and give her a place she can call home. In London, she is sold to Elias Ainsworth, a humanoid with an animal skull for a head. Odd pairing, yes, but they both have something the other needs. 

Orange

Before she starts her sophomore year in high school, Naho Takamiya receives a strange letter from someone claiming to be her 10 years into the future. While skeptical at first, she accepts the facts when her day starts to go on exactly the way the letter describes. 

After learning that her future life will be full of regrets, Naho knows she must correct some of the mistakes of her future self. Particularly, Naho must be careful in the decisions she makes around the transfer student, Kakeru Naruse.

My Hero Academia 

In the world of Izuku Midoriya, having superpowers is the norm—and he is the outsider that still dreams of being a hero. However, everything changes when Izuku is the only one who tries to save a friend, the world’s greatest hero, All Might, bestows one of his own powers upon him.

From there, Izuku enters UA High School, a place known for cultivating the next generation of superheroes. Together, he and his new friends must face the challenges of school, harnessing their powers and the establishment of a society that’s hell-bent on destroying all heroes. 

Castlevania 

When Dracula’s wife is accused of witchcraft and consequently burned at the stake, he declares that all the people of Wallachia will pay with their lives. He uses his power to gather an army of monsters and demons to take over the country and cause fear. 

His plan is going accordingly—until monster hunter Trevor Belmont takes up against his forces, together with magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s half-vampire/half-human son, Alucard. 

Nerdy 

Code Geass

Lelouch Britannia is an exiled Britannian prince. His sister, Nunnally, witnessed the murder of their mother and lost both her sight and ability to walk because of the trauma. Lelouch is furious with his father, Charles, because he believes the King turned a blind eye to their family’s sufferings. 

Some years later, Lelouch is involved in a terrorist attack and is saved by a girl named CC. The mysterious savior grants Lelouch power called Geass, also known as Power of Kings, which allows him to command anyone to do whatever he wants—just once for every individual. With his new found power, Lelouch decides to find his mother’s killers, destroys his father’s kingdom and creates a better world. 

Kuromukuro 

After centuries of hiding, the Black Relic is unearthed. As the UN researches it, the daughter of one of their facilitators accidentally reactivates its cockpit, thereby releasing Kennosuke from cryostasis. Kennosuke is a samurai from the past with an ability to control the Black Relic, also known as the Kuromukuro. 

Realizing that Kuromukuro is their biggest weapon against an alien invasion, Kennosuke quickly becomes one of the biggest assets of the UN. 

Athletic 

Haikyuu!!

Though lacking in height, Shōyō Hinata is determined to be a great volleyball player. And while all things start to look good, his team suffers a crushing defeat against another school, led by “King of the Court” Tobio Kageyama. After the match, Hinata vows to defeat Kageyama by entering the Karasuno High School. 

But while there, the two boys form an unlikely bond on the court. Hinata’s athleticism and Kageyama’s quick thinking pull the two together to form an unseen volleyball tactic. 

Kuroko’s Basketball

Teiko Middle School was known to dominate the basketball scene, with their players endearingly called the Generation of Miracles. But once the five stars reach high school, they are split and attend different schools with top basketball teams. 

But soon, the community learns that there was a sixth member of the Generation of Miracles who is attending Seirin High. With him is another strong player who spent his previous years in the United States, Taiga Kagami. These two athletes make a promise to turn Seirin High into Japan’s top basketball high school. 

Emotional 

Violet Evergarden 

During the war, young Violet Evergarden was used as a weapon to destroy the government’s enemies. In her violent journey, she forgot how it was like feel as a human, literally and figuratively losing parts of herself. 

After the war, she takes up a job as an Auto Memory Doll, girls who are in charge of writing letters for those who don't know how to articulate their feelings themselves. With the help of her customers, Violet is able to find purpose after war and learns to feel—having to come to terms with her feelings for her ex-Major. 

Your Lie In April 

Piano prodigy Kōsei Arima held the eyes, ears and souls of those he played for. He was famous (and infamous) among his fellow child musicians, but controversial as well. His mother was strict and as her sickness became stronger, she only went down harder on Arima. When she passes away, Arima has a mental breakdown during a competition and he is suddenly unable to hear the sound of his piano.

Four years later, Arima has resorted to his monochrome life and settles in his with his friends, Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryōta Watari. Then Kaori Miyazono, a free-spirited violin prodigy, enters the picture and demands that Arima play the piano in her next concert. Her stubbornness, talent and audacious personality leave Arima confused, but he inevitably concedes to be her partner.
