Netflix’s Lego Elves: Secret of Elvendale Is Nothing You’d Expect

Whether or not you've actually seen a Lego movie, everyone knows what they look like. But apparently teaming up with Netflix has the iconic toy company ditching their signature aesthetic for something a little more fluid and – we’re assuming – a lot easier to develop.
This is what we mean.
We’re talking about Lego Elves: Secret of Elvendale, Netflix’s upcoming animated series. A quick look at a few stills from the trailer will give you more Legend of Korra vibes than actual Lego vibes.

It definitely works well in the context of the show, which has everything to do with magic and mythical creatures. If there was any time to drop the classic Lego look, it’s now.
If you’re familiar with the building sets, you know the characters and the story.
The story follows Emily Jones, a human who stumbled into the land of Elves in the first wave of building sets from 2015. But in Secret of Elvendale, her younger sister Sophie is thrust into the main plotline as well.
When the sisters reach Elvendale, Sophie is captured by the Goblin King and his minions. To get her back, Emily and her elf friends must go on a rescue mission through the forest and to the King’s lair. Not only do they want to save Sophie, but they want to save the Goblin Village from the King’s tyrannical rule as well.
Getting there proves to be difficult as the woods are filled with creatures that are hell-bent on stopping the group. Fortunately, they have magic up their elven sleeves.
We know you know this part.
Emily’s four friends possess the magic of the elements – fire, water, earth and air. Meanwhile, Emily herself possesses the power of love, which makes the other four elements much more powerful when combined.
It may sound a little childish, but it’s the kind of childish you know will become a not-so-guillty-pleasure. And it definitely reminds us of Airbender and Legend of Korra – which are definitely good things. So don’t miss out on Lego Elves: Secret of Elvendale when it’s released on Netflix on September 1.
