Filipino Acts to Watch Out For this 2021

From ALAMAT to Globe’s very own PARADISE RISING

There is an abundance of Filipino talent we’re seeing lately. Quarantine may have thwarted our day to day, but with all the time spent at home, we’re finding that creatives flourish in self-isolation.

Looking for Pinoy acts to add to your growing Spotify library? Even dedicate a playlist, or two, to Filipino acts solely? From P-Pop boy group, ALAMAT, to Globe’s very own PARADISE RISING, here’s a list of music acts to watch out for this 2021.

ALAMAT

Introducing ALAMAT, a 9-member sing-rap-dance boy group. Making the most of their members’ diverse backgrounds, their viral kbye music video caught the public’s attention many thanks to the track’s multilingual lyrics. Closing in on 750,000 views as of writing, it shows Taneo, Mo, Jao, Kin, Tomas, R-Ji, Valfer, Gami and Alas singing and rapping in various languages spoken across the country.

syd hartha

We may have already had this young singer-songwriter on our radar for a while, but syd hartha still captures our hearts with her vulnerable, poignant prose. Having been around a musically inclined family all her life, she took a deep dive into the local scene only recently and pursued music full-time. In 2020, she received almost four million streams on Spotify, with her single tila tila dominating her discography.

PARADISE RISING

We’re no strangers to 88rising and Globe Telecom’s brainchild, PARADISE RISING, putting a spotlight on Filipino talent in the country and, this 2021, even globally. The label’s roster of artists includes Kiana V, Leila Alcasid, Jason Dhakal, Fern., Massiah and, most recently, Ylona Garcia and Guapdad 4000.

After all this time, we’re still not over semilucent, the label’s five-track mixtape available on Spotify.

In an exclusive interview with Forbes, 88rising founder Sean Miyashiro shares, “88rising is all about supporting and embracing the voices of those who are underrepresented. We started with the Philippines because of the great opportunity presented to partner with Globe. Globe understands what we are doing and are as enthusiastic about sharing the amazing Filipino talent.”

We’re looking forward to all the Pinoy acts we’ve yet to see this 2021!
