Seven New Tracks to Check out on Spotify: April 2019
The first of the summer months and just the songs to go with it
The new month for music holds a lot of promise: We’re not only getting started with building our summer playlists, but we have future releases like Jai Wolf’s The Cure to Loneliness, Sara Bareilles’ Amidst the Chaos, Khalid’s Free Spirit and BLACKPINK’s Kill This Love to look forward to.
The rest of April? Just as great as we’re already counting down to Lizzo’s third studio album Cuz I Love You as well as Cage the Elephant’s Social Cues.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and start the month out nice and easy: Here are seven new tracks you can check out and keep on heavy rotation this April, too!

“Self” by Khalid
Album: Free Spirit
“Self” is the last of Khalid’s promo tracks before his sophomore album drops on April 5. Apart from the trials and travails of the modern relationship he’s already known to tackle in his music, tracks like “Self” take on matters like introspection and coming to terms with your demons.

“Leave My Home” by FKJ
Single
Granted this is an early March 2019 release, we reckon that getting started on a summer playlist without “Leave My Home” by French Kiwi Juice just won’t do. Yet another easy electronic R&B and soul artist perfect for long road trips, beach days and hot summer nights coming your way:
“MONOPOLY” by Ariana Grande (with Victoria Monét)
Single
Ariana Grande may be on tour, but this hasn’t stopped the 25-year-old pop star from releasing new music. As a thank you to her fans, she dropped the collaborative track “MONOPOLY” earlier this week featuring contemporary R&B singer Victoria Monét, her long-time friend and Grande’s opening act during the Dangerous Woman world tour.

“Lo/Hi” by The Black Keys
Single
American rock duo The Black Keys ends their five-year hiatus with “Lo/Hi,” a single that easily fits into the their 2014 album Turn Blue. This, if anything, is an indication that Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are ready to pick up where they last left off and that there is, indeed, power in continuity.
“Thinkin Bout You” by Ciara
Single
Here’s another artist making an exciting return to the music scene this summer: Ciara caps off the month of March with a hot new single and a fun new music video. Consider this (on top of her existing bop “Level Up”) just a preview of what’s to come when the dance-pop artist drops her seventh studio album Beauty Marks on May 10th.
“Built That Way” by Emotional Oranges
Single
New musical duo alert: It’s time you got this elusive LA-based R&B tandem on your radar. Emotional Oranges, with only singles so far (“Corners Of My Mind” and “Hold You Back” are some early favorites), is looking like one of the promising new acts to watch.
“bad guy” by Billie Eilish
Album: WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
17-year-old singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, named Favorite Breakout Artist of 2019 at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, is clearly only getting started. Audiophiles were given a taste of her distinct brand of pop oddity early on in the year and then went full force late last month when she dropped her debut studio album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
The track on our radar at the moment? “bad guy,” the second track on the album, which came with a wonderfully weird music video following the album release.
