9 New Tracks to Check out on Spotify: January 2019
New year, new music, new possible favorites to keep on loop all month
Music in 2019 is already looking like one eargasmic thrill. In the coming months (and just days, even), highly anticipated album releases get underway. Expect new music from Toro y Moi, The Backstreet Boys, Switchfoot and The Dandy Warhols in January alone, but trust that rest of 2019 will be just as eventful. Hozier, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey and Rihanna are just some of the artists slated to drop new music this year. In between, there are music festivals like Laneway, Wanderland, Malasimbo, Coachella and PULP Summer Slam to look forward to. BLACKPINK, Kodaline, Troye Sivan and The 1975, meanwhile, mount their solo concerts as part of their 2019 tours in Asia, too.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and start from the very beginning. A promising new year needs a refreshing new mix to go with it. What’s on go! Magazine’s Spotify year-starter roundup for January? Scroll through and have a listen.
“Anino” by Up Dharma Down
Anino, Stolen & Crying Season
Featured on the surprise New Year’s Day drop by the four-man indie rock band, “Anino” gives listeners an exciting preview of UDD’s new yet familiar sound and a sneak peek of their 4th studio album.
“Baby, It’s You” by JoJo
A case of déjà vu or a trip down memory lane only better? “Baby, It’s You,” JoJo’s pop era-defining hit from 2004 and the rest of her debut studio album get an exciting remastered version. An album worth revisiting in 2019 if you loved all things from the early 2000’s. Throw it all the way back and tune in to her other hits “Leave (Get Out),” “Not That Kinda Girl” and “Weak,” also on the new JoJo album.

“See Me” by Kiana Valenciano
Single
When Kiana Valenciano took to Instagram last month to share a photo of herself in the recording studio, fans knew that new music was right on the horizon. “Honestly just wanna release everything and not follow the timeline,” she said in her caption, hinting at her first full-length studio album as a follow-up to her EP, Grey. If Valenciano’s lead single “See Me” is any indication, the upcoming drop is something R&B lovers should watch out for.
“MOONSTONE” by Golden Vessel, Elkkle, Akurei
Single
There’s a lot to love about Brisbane musician GOLDEN VESSEL and all that comes after his three-way collaborations with electronic/dance artists Akurei and Elkkle. “MOONSTONE” is one of them. An upbeat recounting of encounters with disappointment, “MOONSTONE” is a glass-half-full take on things and our choice pick-me-up track for down days in 2019.
“Take That Man” by IV of Spades
Single
IV of Spades closed out 2018 with a bang and a music video. Still on a high from the stunning visuals from the MV and still reeling from bassist Zild Benitez’s vocal stylings, “Take That Man” slides into the January 2019 roundup and easily represents what can be expected from OPM this year.

“Juice” by Lizzo
Single
When it comes to pop earworms and feminist anthems, “Juice” takes the cake for January. The latest single by American hip-hop artist Lizzo is as catchy as it is unapologetic, an empowering number that, not surprisingly, touches on body positivity and owning your self-confidence. Need stunning visuals to go with that track? Catch the music premiere here at 10PM today, January 4.
“Wow.” by Post Malone
Single
You can count on one of the most streamed artists of 2018 to know precisely how to take cloud rap fans from the holidays and straight into the New Year. Keeping the ball rolling in 2019, Post Malone’s surprise Christmas Eve drop, “Wow.” enters this year’s Billboard’s Hot 100 at the #47 spot.
“The Juice” by HERO
Completely unrelated to Lizzo’s new single, the similarly titled track “The Juice” by Canadian artist HERO is our introduction to sultry R&B and easy listening in 2019.
“Mundo” by UNIQUE
Recorded at UNIQUE’s first solo concert in September, the single originally performed by then-foursome IV of Spades, at long last gets a slow and soulful acoustic rendition. Enjoy UNIQUE’S other notable tracks “Ozone (Itulak Ang Pinto),” “Midnight Sky” and “Sino” in a completely new light when you listen to The Grandma Tour Live on Spotify.
