First Day High (2006) on iWantTFC
A film with interesting beginnings, First Day High started out as an uber-popular Rexona deodorant commercial with enough pop culture clout to be spun into one hit comedy. Here, college freshmen played by Geoff Eigenmann, Jason Abalos and Maja Salvador start their first year at FDH University. Along with Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu, this ensemble cast finds itself caught in a university scandal: The Basketball Water Contamination Accident.
It’s the first day of college. What could go wrong?
Oro Plata Mata (1982) on Prime Video
Oro, Plata, Mata is a historical war drama directed by Peque Gallaga that follows the lives of two haciendero families in Negros during World War II. The film’s title comes from the traditional architectural superstition that stairs should not end in a multiple of three (thus “oro, plata, mata” or “gold, silver, death”). The film is paced the same way. Oro: living in luxury and comfort; Plata: seeking refuge in the vast land they own in the countryside; Mata: escaping to the mountains only to be victimized by guerrillas.
An epic story of an idyllic time destroyed by the ravages of war.
On The Job (2013) on Prime Video
Famously known as OTJ for short, On the Job is a 2013 neo-noir action thriller written and directed by Erik Matti. It tells the story of two prisoners who are temporarily freed to carry out political executions. On their trail are two law enforcement agents charged with investigating a murder connected to the gun-for-hire syndicate in the prison.
Have a gun? Get out of prison.
The Trigonal: Fight for Justice (2018) on iWantTFC
An action film written and directed by Vincent Soberano, The Trigonal: Fight for Justice follows the story of MMA fighter Jacob Casa, who is about to retire when an international crime syndicate invites him to an underground fight club. His family soon becomes collateral in this winner-takes-all flick.
Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in.
Got 2 Believe (2002) on Vivamax
There’s a reason this film, even 20 years later, holds interest. Got 2 Believe is a 2002 romcom starring Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan (his last movie before his passing). It’s the classic story of boy-meets-girl—who discover they hate each other. Fans of the enemies-to-lovers trope will enjoy the tension between these two endearing characters as they slowly but gently give way to the budding romance between them.
Love comes softly…through annoyance.
These barely skim the surface! Immerse yourself in the world of Pinoy movies when you stream them online with Viu, Vivamax, Prime Video, and iWantTFC.
