Iconic K-Pop Music Videos That Will Never Get Old

Let’s have a look at the legendary K-Pop MV’s from the first two generations of artists

Are you a member of Twice’s Once fandom, a part of the BTS ARMY or a self-professed Blink pledging allegiance to BLACKPINK? These music fans are now everywhere. As for the K-Pop groups, they are only a few of the Korean boy/girl bands taking music charts by storm and attracting listeners from all over the world.

But before this new breed of K-Pop idols entered the scene, Hallyu groups like BIGBANG and 2NE1 were front and center, producing bops that have stood the test of time and addicting music videos that remain iconic to this day. Chances are you still remember the moves to some of the early 2000s’ most popular K-Pop hits. If not, their tunes are certainly familiar.

Below you’ll find the music videos that, in our opinion, are just some of the most iconic and essential music videos well-loved in K-mmunity PH (as good a watch in 2020 as their premiere day way back when). If you’re ready to hit it, scroll through!

“I Am the Best” by 2NE1 (2011)

To this day, 2NE1 remains one of the most popular K-Pop girl groups in the world. And yes, this is even years after their disbandment. Their song, I Am the Best, is one of their most popular tracks (released at the high point in the girls’ career).

“Gee” by Girls’ Generation (2009)

Ask a K-Pop fan for the ultimate K-Pop song, and you’ll likely get Gee as the answer. It’s the quintessential bubblegum K-Pop track that people of all ages enjoy. To match this is the candy-colored music video featuring equally cute and fun choreography. Let’s also not forget Minho’s (SHINee) appearance as a shopkeeper in the MV!

Fantastic Baby” by BIGBANG (2012)

The post-apocalyptic production set, the scene-stealing wardrobe, the bold hairstyling and makeup, and of course, Korea’s Kings of K-pop: these are elements of Fantastic Baby, perhaps BIGBANG’s most popular song. This group was already well-established in the industry, but this single is responsible for putting them in the global spotlight.

“Sorry, Sorry” by Super Junior (2009)

Remember the good old days of waiting for Super Junior’s Sorry, Sorry to appear on the international music charts? What sticks out about the iconic black-and-white music video is that it best highlights the group’s smooth, incredibly in-sync moves. And how could we forget the boys decked out in suits? It doesn’t matter which fandom you belong to; this song likely has a place in your heart—and you probably know the chorus well.

“Fire” by 2NE1 (2009)

It’s already been said, but we’ll say it again: this quartet is one of the most successful girl groups in K-Pop. Their debut song Fire is responsible for keeping them on the music charts for weeks in 2009. Its bold video style coupled with the pulsing synths make a refreshing addition to the existing lineup of bubblegum pop female acts, too.

“Nobody” by Wonder Girls (2008)

Can you really call yourself a K-Pop stan without knowing the dance to this song? When Wonder Girls’ Nobody rose to fame, it became one of the K-Pop hits often heard in malls, buses and even jeepneys. Fun fact: its music video features J.Y Park, the founder of JYP himself.
