Because your Pride celebration deserves just the soundtrack
June is made extra special by the fact that we get to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+. It’s Pride Month: a time to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots, and support the ongoing civil rights movement for the members of the queer community, who are still rallying in places like the Philippines for equal rights.
While rooted in protest, it is a celebration, too. And here, we round up the playlists you can listen to all Pride Month long—known LGBTQIA+ anthems and hits by queer artists all included.
"Bahaghari" by Spotify
Entitled Bahaghari, Filipino for rainbow, this playlist obviously features local artists tossed in with international ones. Tune in for a steady mix of everything from bedroom beats, indie folk and dance pop. It’s a place you can discover fresh acts, too, like Paul Pablo, while getting reacquainted with old favorites like Tegan & Sara.
"RuPaul’s Drag Race Lip Sync Songs" by TheKongaBeat
Now, this is not an outright Pride playlist, per se, but this definitely deserves a spot in the roundup. A compilation of all the lip sync songs featured on the reality television series, this playlist is peppered with timeless Pride anthems throughout history.
"Pride 2021" by Peloton
For spin class enthusiasts, just imagine: how great would a Pride-themed indoor cycling class be? The spin studio Peloton has that covered with a curated selection of upbeat tracks for on and off the bike.
"Pride" by Starbucks UK
Known ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, Starbucks is just one of many companies rolling out Pride playlists of their own. Ahead, take a trip through the decades and listen in for LGBTQIA+ anthems through the years, covering art pop, alternative, rock, dance pop and more.
"Pride Playlist" by Spice Girls
We know we’re in good company with Ginger Spice, Sporty Spice, Posh Spice, Scary Spice, Baby Spice and friends. This playlist by the Spice Girls features Cher, ABBA and Little Mix just to name a few: tracks guaranteed to get you on your feet and get you dancing.
"Alternative Pride" by Spotify
Looking for something a little more genre-focused? This roundup of Pride tracks can be your go-to for all things alternative. It includes fresh releases in 2021 (hello, Japanese Breakfast!) along with notable collaborations that give the playlist a dash of hip-hop (Ashnikko featuring Princess Nokia and BROCKHAMPTON featuring Danny Brown are here).
