Rosé of BLACKPINK Marks a Milestone With Her Solo Debut

Her On the Ground MV has broken the record for most YouTube views in a single day—and this is only the beginning

Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa have given us practically a song for every mood and exciting performances to sustain us all year. Now, it’s time to kick off some of the members’ long-awaited solo material. BLACKPINK has been a consistent happy pill throughout quarantine; and in March, there’s a particular focus on Rosé.

After welcoming the month by releasing official MV teasers, YG Entertainment finally dropped Rosé’s debut EP R, followed by the explosive music video of her new single On the Ground.

By itself, the track is a window into the kind of music and the distinct sound Rosé is all about as a soloist. The nearly three-minute song is also her honest account of her fast rise to fame and of staying grounded in her five years in the music industry.

Hitting streaming platforms on the 12th, On the Ground was met with warm reception and early success: It debuted at the #70 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, only setting off a chain reaction of new milestones for the 24-year-old artist. As reported by K-culture platform Soompi: “Rosé’s solo debut success includes breaking records for the highest first-week album sales for a K-pop female soloist, most YouTube views within the first 24 hours on a music video by a K-pop soloist, and the most streams achieved in 24 hours by a song officially released by a K-pop soloist on Spotify.” And this is only the beginning.

Rosé also surprised BLINKs by further giving them a peek into her mind, her world and her beginnings via a newly launched YouTube channel. Can’t get enough Rosé? Watch her first vlog entry below.
