Why We’re Excited For The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
The teenage witch we know and love has gotten a makeover
Netflix is at it again, turning a classic title from our childhoods and giving it a dark and 2018-appropriate makeover. This time, we’re looking at The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, which is scheduled to start streaming on October 26.
Why are we thrilled Sabrina’s joining the Netflix family? For the exact same reasons you should be, too.

Sabrina Spellman’s as the perfect leading lady
On the eve of her 16thbirthday, Sabrina Spellman is expected to leave her normal life behind and enter an academy for the dark arts, give herself over to the dark lord and basically take part in a tradition that her family has been part of for generations.
But she doesn’t want it—not in the slightest. But when she tries to fight back and forge her own path, this age-old world fights back.
It’s easy to understand that this Sabrina Spellman is not the same one we met in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. She is powerful in her own right, decisive, independent and won’t back down from a fight.
Hello, Satan
If it isn’t obvious enough, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina rest squarely in the drama-horror genre. It’s filled with monsters, spells, demons and even an appearance or two of Satan himself.
Modern meets classic
In essence, Chilling Adventuresis about a girl choosing between the two paths that life has laid out in front of her. It’s a story every generation has seen and experienced since the beginning of entertainment. But what brings this classic tale to the forefront of today’s society is the fact that Sabrina is fighting a patriarchy—albeit one lead by a coven of witches and warlocks.

A great cast with equally great characters
But it isn’t just Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina that takes a pivotal role in the series. Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman and Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, aunts to the budding witch who each have their own opinions on Sabrina’s path. Then there’s Sabrina’s pansexual cousin, Ambrose, played by Chance Perdomo, who’s trapped in their family mortuary under magical house arrest. Then, of course, there is Madam Satan, acted by Michelle Gomez.
That isn’t to say, however, that the men in The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina don’t hold their own.
Sabrina’s boyfriend, Harvey, is charmingly played by Ross Lynch and the frightening Father Blackwood, the high priest of the Church of Night is played by Richard Coyle.
It’s a perfect October fit
With an October 26 premiere date on Netflix, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Spellmanis the perfect way to spend the weekend before Halloween—and may be the ideal place to catch some costume inspiration.
