“Dope New Gospel (feat. Nivea)”
Album: Tha Carter V
In exciting music news: Lil Wayne has finally ended his three-year hiatus with Tha Carter V, his 13th studio album which debuted at #1 on Billboard 200. Heavyweight collaborations in this release include fellow hip-hop and R&B artists Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Nivea, Kendrick Lamar and Ashanti among others.
“Shallow”
Album: A Star Is Born OST
An accompaniment to the highly-acclaimed film starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Shallow” is the lead single in the equally celebrated official movie soundtrack performed by the two lead actors. It’s a haunting, solemn folk track that allowed Cooper to score his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Simple Dude”
Album: TPC
Canadian indie rock band Tokyo Police Club spring back onto the scene with their fifth studio album TPC in tow. A medley of up-tempo tracks great for easy listening, TPC is more of the same elements that Tokyo Police Club is known and loved for: charming lyrics, catchy beats and energetic guitar runs.
“On My Way Up”
Album: JCON
The new era of local indie act Jess Connelly may have come in August, but the slow and steady reveal of tracks from her latest mixtape makes her an exciting artist to tune into this month as well. Track 13 on JCON entitled “On My Way Up” marries suave bedroom beats, a catchy new phrase on loop and Connelly’s distinct vocal stylings. The music video is just as captivating, too.
“Honey”
Album: The Midnight Emotion
New band on the block One Click Straight made a lasting impression at the 2017 run of Wander Battle (AKA Wanderland Music and Arts Festival’s annual battle of the bands event). The four-man group has come a long way since then, going from performing covers of hits by other artists to releasing their own album with completely original songs.
“Superior Emotion”
Album: Champagne Eyes EP
Champagne Eyes is another fresh drop you can put on heavy rotation this month. The six-track EP by AlunaGeorge is the synth-pop duo’s first independently released record and features some seriously infectious tunes. The EP’s lead single “Superior Emotion,” a collaboration with Brooklyn-based musician Cautious Clay, is certainly no exception.
“Venom”
Album: Venom OST
It’s a one-two punch: American rapper Eminem provides Marvel Universe’s Venom with a correspondingly bad-ass movie title track, which also appears in his newly released studio album, Kamikaze. The surprise album release made headlines once before in September and now it’s at it again.
“Thick And Thin”
Album: Malibu Nights
LA-based indie pop band LANY manages to overcome the dreaded sophomore slump with their well-received new release Malibu Nights. Tracks like “Thick And Thin,” “If You See Her” and “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore” pose as potential new anthems for the lovestruck, heartbroken and wear-your-heart-on-your-sleeve types, whom they’ve undeniably won over since their start in the music industry three years ago.
