Taylor Swift’s Reputation Is Almost Here; Should You Get It?

Look at what she’s making us do

Just over three years ago, Taylor Swift released 1989—an album that spelled a new sound for the unstoppable then-24-year-old. But while it was definitely less country-ballad and more pop, her tunes still generally spoke to the brokenhearted in all of us. Who can ever forget, And when we go crashing down, we come back every time/ ‘Cause we never go out of style or So it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna go down in flames/You can tell me when it’s over, if the high was worth the pain? That’s right, no one. It’s ingrained in all of our minds, whether we like it or not.

But that was more than three years ago and our girl has gone through a lot since then. And her upcoming album, Reputation, is the epitome of all that change.

Look What You Made Me Do

There have been countless articles trying to decipher what Look What You Made Me Do is all about—from every single line of the lyrics to every scene in the music video. But if there’s one truth amidst all the theories, it’s this: Sweet Taylor knows what we’ve all been saying about her and she’s ready to join in on the fun.

… Ready For It?

Another music video, another thousand theories. The lyrics to… Ready For It? speak about a lover that makes every other before him a “failure,” but the video is about strength and rebirth. Starting to see where Taylor’s going, huh?

Gorgeous

Current YouTube view count: 38 million

There might not be a music video for Gorgeous just yet, but the lyrics and melody remind us of an older Taylor-era. It ditches the rap-singing of the two earlier singles and hints that maybe she isn’t “dead” just yet.

Hundreds of thousands already sold

Reputation won’t officially be made available until November 10, but the pre-orders are pouring in like rain on a stormy day. Over the weekend, more than 400,000 orders were already placed, which is double of the pre-orders made to 1989—and we all know how big that one came to be. Seriously, this girl, her music and her fan base are just unrelenting.

So should you get it?

For the Speak Now/Red/1989-album-loving Swifties out there, be prepared to hear new beats, lyrics and overall singing style from the 26-year-old chart-topper. If you’re a loyalist that loved the catchy and sing-able songs of yore, then Reputation might not be your cup of tea.

On the other hand, if you’re interested to see Taylor spread her wings—which the entire world seems to have as a past time—then be prepared for the plunge. The upside is that the old Taylor does seem to still be in there somewhere and Reputation is likely to pay homage to her ala Gorgeous.

While we count the days down to Taylor Swift’s new album’s official release, we’ll settle in with songs we not-so-guiltily memorized. We’ll dance to Shake It Off, scream out to Blank Space and reminisce to Everything Has Changed.
