Meet the New Mutants: The X-Men Spinoff Sounds Incredible
A new generation of mutants is being born
Last week, Fox announced that it will be working on New Mutants, a spin-off to the X-Men franchise. And while this in itself got us interested, the announcement regarding the cast and their respective characters has got us hooked. The upcoming movie has so much potential and we can’t wait to see it come to life.
Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane
Rahne Sinclair, better known as Wolfsbane, has been confirmed to be part of the New Mutants mix. She’ll be played by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and it seems like a perfect match. Wolfsbane, as her name applies, has the ability to transform into a wolf, but she also has the option to stay in a sort of transition phase, where she’s a mix of a wolf and a human.
In the earlier parts of her life, Rahne struggles with her ability because of her religious upbringing. An internal conflict arose because she genuinely enjoyed herself in her wolf-form.
Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik
Meanwhile, The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy will play the role of Illyana Nikolievna Rasputina a.k.a Magik. Her abilities mostly center on teleportation, but it’s not just about going from one place to another—it’s about getting from one time to another. She uses Limbo to transport herself and others from one time to another, and is also a talented sorceress.
Magik is the younger sister of X-Men member Colossus, who is most known for his role in Deadpool. Magik has a colorful past as she was trained by several individuals after being taken from her family in Russia to the United States.
The Rest Of The New Mutants
The rest of the cast has not yet been announced, but we do have an idea as to who else will be part of the spinoff. Danielle Moonstar, who possesses the power to create illusions of opponents’ fears, will be joining Wolfsbane and Magik. Sunspot, Cannonball and Warlock will all be part of the film as well. Respectively, their powers are to absorb and control solar power, fly at jet speeds and reshaping form.
Set Your Eyes On April 2018
New Mutants will premiere on April 2018, which means we have a little less than a year to polish up on our X-Men history. And following the end of Hugh Jackman’s reign as Logan/Wolverine, we’re excited for this new generation.
