7 Titles We Can’t Wait to Stream on Netflix: April 2021

Here are the new releases to watch out for

Through yet another stay-at-home summer, Netflix is here to keep us company.

The good news is that in April, the titles joining the platform are giving us something to look forward to. All-new episodes of Lucifer are coming. Meditation and mindfulness app Headspace is crossing back over to video streaming for The Headspace Guide to Sleep. And of course, there’s no leaving out titles for those aching for blockbuster hits. Movies like Rocketman, After the Sunset, Shazam!, Gifted and Cellular are all making their way to Netflix in April as well.

These aside, what else can viewers expect? Here, we round up other noteworthy new releases to watch out for:

The Serpent

Starring: Tahar Rahim, Billy Howle, Jenna Coleman, Ellie Bamber, Mathilde Warnier and Tim McInnerny

This new Netflix original series tells the story of serial killer Charles Sobhraj, also known as “the Serpent,” who spent a good portion of the ‘70s preying on Western tourists traveling through the “hippie trail” of South Asia. His infamous story gets the Netflix crime-drama treatment this month.

Tune in when The Serpent premieres on April 2.

Concrete Cowboy

Starring: Idris Elba, Caleb McLaughlin, Lorraine Toussaint, Jharrel Jerome and Method Man

Beasts of No Nation star Idris Elba and Stranger Things’ own Caleb McLaughlin are father and son in this highly anticipated Netflix original film. Sent to live with his estranged father for the summer, rebellious teenager Cole (McLaughlin) discovers the world of urban horseback riding and a tight-knit community of Black cowboys in Northern Philadelphia.

Concrete Cowboy premieres April 2.

The Way of the Househusband

Featuring: Kenjirô Tsuda

In The Way of the Househusband, legendary yakuza Tatsu gives up a life of crime to assume a new role completely alien to him: that of a devoted stay-at-home husband. In order to support his wife Miku, he must now trade crime for chores.

The Way of the Househusband streams April 8.

Thunder Force

Starring: Octavia Spencer, Melissa McCarthy, Jason Bateman, Pom Klementieff and Bobby Cannavale

It’s the hilarious tale about a pair of unlikely superheroes: childhood best friends Emily (Octavia Spencer) and Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) must now team up after the former discovers a way to give ordinary people superpowers.

Crime-fighting begins on April 9.

Love and Monsters

Starring: Dylan O’Brien, Jessica Henwick, Michael Rooker, Dan Ewing, Ariana Greenblatt and Ellen Hollman

Two teenagers in love are faced with an unprecedented hurdle: a monster apocalypse just broke loose. Flashforward seven years, the still-smitten Joel (Dylan O’Brien) discovers that his girlfriend has survived, too, and is just 85 miles away. He leaves the safety of his underground bunker to find her.

Love and Monsters premieres April 14.

Shadow and Bone

Starring: Jessie Mei Li, Freddy Carter, Archie Renaux, Amita Suman, Ben Barnes, and Simon Sears

Leigh Bardugos’ fantasy adventure novel gets the Netflix treatment in this upcoming series. Here, orphan and soldier Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) unleashes an extraordinary power that could set her war-torn country free. Dark forces, however, see to it this doesn’t happen.

Stream Shadow and Bone beginning April 23.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Featuring: Olivia Colman, Maya Rudolph, Danny McBride, Eric André and Abbi Jacobson

The fate of the human race lies in the hands of the Mitchells. In this family-friendly, animated comedy, the Mitchell clan must take a detour on their cross-country road trip to face off with the world’s electronic devices that have come to life.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines premieres April 30.
