Fight Hunger with Globe’s Hapag Movement—Here’s How

To helping Filipino families recover from the pandemic

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have further increased the number of Filipino families suffering from hunger. As of December 2021, the figure has reached a total of 15 million. At the same time, 3.13 million Filipinos have been left unemployed.

Because of the continuous rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, however, the country has slowly worked its way into operating at near pre-pandemic levels. Still, the current landscape of high unemployment rates and more families living in hunger remain pressing issues. To help address these, Globe has decided to spearhead the Hapag Movement, a program to help uplift vulnerable Filipino families in 2022 and beyond.

Here’s everything you need to know about the initiative and how you can help out.

What is the Hapag Movement?

In partnership with AcadArena, Globe aims to fight hunger in the country through technology, connecting multi-sectoral partners, and tapping the gaming community to contribute to the cause.

The Hapag Movement’s goal is to support 100,000 families or 500,000 individuals to help alleviate hunger and the lack of livelihood opportunities for vulnerable families in the country.

Alongside other Globe of Good programs and Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and Ayala Foundation’s #BrigadangAyalaKaakay Program, the Hapag Movement’s mission is to uphold the United Nations (UN) Global Compact Principles and to fulfill its 10 Sustainable Development Goals. 

How to Donate to The Hapag Movement

The fight against hunger doesn’t just call for organizations to take part. It needs to take a holistic approach, achieved only with the help of communities and individuals. Here’s how you can donate and support the advocacy:

Via the New GlobeOne App 

Step 1: Log into the new GlobeOne App.

In 2022, GlobeOne migrated to a new app (of the same name) that’s available for download on the App Store, Google Play, and AppGallery. Log in using your existing GlobeOne account or make a new one if you are a first-time user. 

Step 2: Tap the “Rewards” button on the main dashboard.

Once logged in, head over to the button dock and look for “Rewards.” Tap on this to be redirected to the Rewards page.

Step 3: Tap on “Donations” and look for “Hapag Movement.”

Type “Hapag Movement” in the search bar. This should generate donation options for you to choose from.

Step 4: Select the amount you’d like to donate and tap “Redeem.”

After reviewing the list of available donation amounts, click the one you wish to donate, then tap “Next.” This will take you to a confirmation page. Once there, tap “Redeem,” and you’re all set.

With your Globe Rewards points, you can join the Hapag Movement and donate an amount as low as ₱1. You can continue collecting points by buying Globe prepaid load or paying your monthly postpaid bill. Save up these points, and you can give as much as ₱1,000 each time you redeem rewards for this donation.

Via GCash

Step 1: Save the QR code image ahead on your device.

Check out the Hapag Movement’s QR Code below. Save the image on the device you intend on using to make your GCash donation.

Step 2: Open the GCash app on your device.

Log into GCash. You can use your account credentials to get in; alternatively, you can access your account using your MPIN or biometrics if these are already set up.

Step 3: Tap on “Send” and choose “Send via QR.”

On your dashboard, tap the “Send” button. This will give you a list of options for sending payments. From here, tap on “Send via QR.” 

Step 4: Upload the QR Code.

Pressing the “Upload QR Code” button should lead you to your media gallery. Select the photo of the QR code you saved earlier.

Step 5: Enter the amount you wish to donate.

Once the QR code is scanned, you can input how much you want to donate. Tapping “Next” will take you to the confirmation page. Tap “Pay” to complete the transaction.
