Simona Halep's career-defining run at the tournament.
In the women’s division of the 2018 Roland Garros, current world number one Simona Halep bagged the first Grand Slam title of her career. The 26-year-old Romanian, who had lost her three previous major finals, raced away with the victory against American 10th seed Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-4, 6-1. “In the last game I felt like I can’t breathe anymore. I did everything I could. It’s amazing what is happening now,” she shared.
Serena Williams’ Grand Slam comeback may have gotten called off, but she showed sports fans that she's a class act.
With 23 Grand Slam singles titles under her belt, Serena Williams, dubbed America’s greatest tennis athlete, withdrew from the tournament due to a pectoral muscle injury. The announcement came before her match with Maria Sharapova.
“The fact that I physically can't serve at all is a good indication that maybe I should just go back to the drawing board and stay positive,” Williams said, “and try to get better and not get it to a point where it could be a lot worse.”
History is made: Nadal is now the first player in the Open era to win the same Grand Slam tournament 11 times.
Spain’s Rafael Nadal, the celebrated King of Clay, emerged victorious in the finals match against Austria’s Dominic Thiem with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 score on Sunday. "It's amazing now, I can’t describe my feelings. It’s not even a dream to win here 11 times because it’s impossible to think something like this," he said.

13-year-old Filipino tennis superstar Alex Eala joins the big leagues.
Rising Filipino tennis star Alex Eala, made her Junior French Championship debut at the 2018 Roland Garros, advancing to the second round of the tournament. Following her win against Paula Arias Manjon of Spain in the opening match with a score of 6-4, 6-4. Though her French Open bid ended when she lost to Peyton Stearns of USA, Eala remained optimistic and grateful for the historic experience of playing in her first International Tennis Federation (ITF) 18-under match.
“While I lost today, I am so happy that I reached the final qualifying round at the Junior French Open Championships,” she said on her Facebook post. After receiving a wildcard slot to the tournament by ITF board member and Fédération Française de Tennis (FF Tennis) Président Bernard Giudicelli last February, Eala became the first and the youngest Filipino to qualify for Roland Garros Juniors.
