The one-stop home shopping destination is almost here
Easy-to-assemble furniture, sleek interior design, modern home and office fixtures that don’t break the bank: if you happen to have an eye out for any of these things, chances are you’ll find what you’re looking for at IKEA. The Swedish furniture store is inarguably the most popular vendor around for versatile, low-cost and no-fuss DIY fixtures. And it comes as no surprise that droves of people abroad flock to their nearest IKEA for easy interior design solutions whenever they need them.

Considering, however, that to shop IKEA means to hop on a plane and head to Hong Kong or Taiwan, IKEA shopping for Filipinos isn’t quite as convenient or cost efficient. That’s until now, at least.
IKEA lovers, get ready! The company is making their way over here and opening day is fast approaching. Ahead of this (though it’s not like you need more reasons to get excited), here’s everything we know so far about IKEA Philippines.
IKEA will open shop at the Mall of Asia complex.
When Filipinos first got word about IKEA potentially opening their first store in the country, signs pointed to a location in Laguna, which turned out to be a false alarm. Lazada Philippines CEO Inanc Balci took to Facebook to address the misunderstanding, saying that the site photographed by Instagram user @pepperteehankee was actually a new warehouse for the e-commerce company in Cabuyao, Laguna.
The real and final location? Situated right in between Mall of Asia Arena and the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex.
IKEA will be linked to the mall.
It goes without saying that the sheer size of the Mall of Asia Complex can be daunting, so navigating from one section to another might be cause for concern. Not to worry: IKEA Philippines will be directly connected to the Mall of Asia through walkway exits, making it easily accessible to mall patrons.
This will be the biggest IKEA store in the world.
The largest IKEA is currently located in Gwangmyeong, South Korea, and has a massive size of 57,100 square meters. This is set to be bumped off to second place when the Philippine store opens. This will span 65,000 square meters—the equivalent of 150 basketball courts.
“We have created the largest IKEA store in the world. I don’t think anybody will ever make a bigger one. This is forever going to be the largest IKEA store in the world,” said Christian Rojkjaer, head of IKEA Southeast Asia in November 2018. This statement came shortly after the launch of the IKEA Philippines website.
There will be a dedicated play area for kids.
Even IKEA shopping day can be made a family affair. While shopping for furniture isn’t something kids generally enjoy, parents can still tag the little ones along and drop them off at the IKEA Playroom, where fun is guaranteed along with adult supervision.
Lastly, IKEA Philippines will house a full-service restaurant.
Every IKEA store in the world comes with a full-service bistro, so this is just another thing to look forward to. Filipinos will soon be able to enjoy IKEA’s world-famous food items: their Swedish meatballs, hotdogs, gratin potatoes and pizza.
