Kumu Partners With Komiket—and Prizes for Komiks Creators Are up for Grabs
Komiket content comes to Kumu, where ₱500,000 in prizes await komiks creators
Social media-meets-live streaming platform Kumu is teaming up with Komiket, the premier Filipino komiks and art market. In a move to “empower the Pinoy komiks community globally,” Kumu has opened the door for Komiket artists who can now more easily share their work with the whole “kumunity.” To note, Komiket itself has opened doors for first-time comics creators, artists and readers since 2015, offering a hub where creators can showcase their work, discover the creations of others, and find emerging talent. It’s one that’s also famous for hosting the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) among other comic-related events, where like-minded creatives can come together.
“Local comics—or komiks—have historically been one of the cradles of Filipino storytelling and imagination,” says Rexy Dorado, co-founder and President of Kumu. “In line with our goals to create the best platform for Filipino creators, we are excited to partner with Komiket, one of the most leading organizations in the industry, to make Kumu the best place for fans and creators of Pinoy komiks.”
With the new Kumu partnership, the two brands are also set to give away ₱500,000 in awards and publishing deals to komiks creators within the Komiket community. Eligible genres include the Darkness (Horror), Kilig (Romance), Rurok (Erotica), Thirsty (Boys Love), Children’s Books and South East Asia Kommunity anthologies published by Komiket in 2022. Meanwhile, top prizes include ₱150,000 in cash, plus a publishing deal with Komiket for both the Komiket Awards and the Kumu Kumunity’s Choice winners.
In a statement introducing the collaboration, Kumu Philippines shares: “This is just the beginning of a promising partnership between two organizations rooted in community and culture. With Kumu’s ethos of authenticity and community and Komiket’s dedication to empowering pinoy komiks and artists globally, the partnership aims to uplift Filipino creators, readers and budding artists.”

Those interested can head to Kumu to stream specials featuring Ten Years To Save the World creators Emiliana Kampilan (Dead Balagtas), Ren Galeno (Full of Grace), Manix Abrera (Kikomachine Komix), Budjette Tan & Kajo Baldisimo (Trese) and Kevin Eric Raymundo (Tarantadong Kalbo). This coincides with the launch on their printed book on climate action, too, a milestone event for creators and enthusiasts alike of Pinoy komiks.
