How to Apply and Track Your SSS Maternity Benefit Claim

Congratulations on your bundle of joy! Having a baby is exciting, but it also involves a lot of preparation. Applying for your SSS Maternity Benefits is crucial for financial support during this time. This guide will walk you through the entire process, whether you're an employee or a voluntary SSS member.

Eligibility for SSS Maternity Benefits

Under the Expanded Maternity Leave Law, you're entitled to maternity benefits for each pregnancy, regardless of how many pregnancies you’ve had. The Social Security System (SSS) provides a cash benefit equivalent to 100% of your average daily salary credit. Financial assistance also applies to miscarriage and emergency termination of pregnancy (ETP).

The law also requires your employer to provide the following number of paid leaves:

  • 105 days whether you had a vaginal or cesarean delivery
  • 120 days if you're a single mom
  • 60 days if you had a miscarriage or ETP

To qualify, you must have paid at least three months' worth of SSS contributions within the 12 months before your delivery date.

How Employees Can Apply

You can provide the home pregnancy test stick to HR as proof of pregnancy.

Let your company's Human Resources (HR) know about your pregnancy once you’ve confirmed it. The department will file the claim on your behalf, but it may ask you to do the following:

1. Accomplish the SSS Maternity Notification Form (MAT 1).

SSS MAT 1 officially notifies your employer and SSS of your expected delivery date and whether you want to allocate a portion of your maternity leave credits to your baby's father or partner. Your company’s HR department should have the form.

2. Attach the document confirming your pregnancy to the SSS MAT 1.

You can provide medical documents such as ultrasound reports, certificates, or blood pregnancy test results (Beta HCG). Submit MAT 1 and proof of pregnancy to HR 60 days before your delivery date.

3. Submit proof of your child's birth to HR.

After giving birth, fill out the SSS Maternity Benefit Application Form (MAT 2) and attach a copy of the Certificate of Live Birth, including the official receipt (OR) or acknowledgment receipt (AR) issued by these offices:

  • Local Civil Registrar (LCR) for a maternity benefit claim filed within six months of delivery date
  • Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for a maternity benefit claim filed beyond six months of delivery date

If you're a solo parent, provide a copy of your Solo Parent ID or a certification of eligibility signed by your city's social worker or mayor. The delivery date should be within the validity period of the Solo Parent ID/certification. First-time solo parents must have their documents issued within six months of the delivery date.

For births outside the Philippines, miscarriages, and other unexpected circumstances, SSS provides a detailed list of required maternity benefit documents.

4. Get your SSS Maternity Benefits through your employer.

The law requires your employer to pay your full maternity benefit within 30 days of filing for maternity leave.

Requirements for Self-Employed and Voluntary

You can enroll GCash as your disbursement account on the SSS mobile app.

Are you a self-employed, voluntary, OFW, or non-working spouse SSS member? Complete the following steps before filing your SSS Maternity Benefit claim.

1. Register for a My.SSS account.

Go to member.sss.gov.ph/members. SSS requires this account to process online applications for SSS benefits and loans. You can also check transaction updates and contributions here.

2. Notify SSS of your pregnancy.

Log in to your My.SSS account to submit a maternity notification 60 days before the delivery date.

  1. Go to "Maternity Notification" under the "Benefits" tab.
  2. Fill in details like expected delivery date and allocate maternity leave credits.
  3. Click "Submit" and return to the "Benefits" tab.
  4. Find "Sickness/Maternity Claim Info" to view the transaction number and expected delivery date under the "Maternity Notification" tab.

You can also notify SSS through the SSS mobile app. Tap the blue floating button with a "+" sign and tap "Maternity Notification."

3. Set up GCash as your disbursement account.

SSS requires a disbursement account from a bank or e-wallet where they can credit your maternity benefit. You can enroll your GCash as an account with these steps. (Note: Your name in GCash should be the same as your registered name in SSS.)

  1. Log in to your My.SSS account.
    • If you're using a desktop, go to the "Services" tab.
    • On the SSS mobile app, tap the blue floating button with a "+" sign.
  2. Select "Disbursement Modules" and then "Disbursement Account Enrollment Module" (DAEM). The app will show the DAEM at the bottom.
  3. A pop-up message with reminders and requirements will appear. When done reading, tap the "Proceed" button.
  4. DAEM shows two tabs: "Enrollment" and "Disbursement Account." Stay on the "Enrollment" tab and choose "E-Wallet."
  5. Choose "GCash" among the choices for "PESONet Participant name."
  6. Enter your 11-digit mobile number (0917XXXXXXX) without spaces or special characters. Ensure you provide an active and verified GCash mobile number to receive texts like reference numbers from SSS.
  7. Pick the "Proof of Account" tab and upload a screenshot of your GCash profile (it shows your name, mobile number, and the "fully verified" icon).
  8. Choose the "ID Card" tab and upload a government ID, such as a Driver's License or SSS ID. You'll see a link that provides a list of acceptable IDs.
  9. Select the "Selfie" tab and follow the instructions carefully. Your uploaded selfie should show you holding your Proof of Account (your mobile phone is open on the GCash profile page) and the ID you uploaded.
  10. Click the check box to certify that your information and documents are accurate and the "Enroll" button.
  11. A pop-up message with your transaction number will appear, and SSS will email you to confirm that it received your enrollment.
  12. Click the "View Disbursement Account" button at the bottom of the pop-up message.
  13. You're now on DAEM's "Disbursement Account" tab, which shows DAEM's icon (similar to a bank emoji) with a "For Branch Approval" message.

SSS will email you to update whether your enrollment was approved or rejected. If approved, you should see the GCash icon on the DAEM's "Disbursement Account" tab.

You can still file a late claim for SSS Maternity Benefits within the 10-year period from your delivery date.

After giving birth, you can now file your SSS Maternity Benefits claim.

  1. Log in to your My.SSS account, go to the "Benefits" tab and select "Apply for Maternity Benefit."
  2. The page will show your home mailing address, mobile number, landline, email address, and disbursement account number. Review the details to ensure they’re correct. If the mobile number, email address, or disbursement account is missing, the page will not show a "Proceed" button.
  3. Please read the reminders, which provide links to the list of required documents. Click "Proceed" when done.
  4. Fill in the required fields. For "No. of Pregnancies," list if this is your first or second (and so on) pregnancy. For example, say you miscarried the first time, and you're pregnant again. You're filing a claim for your second pregnancy, so you put "2" in the field.
  5. Once you reach the disbursement account field, your e-wallet should appear as a choice. Click "Proceed."
  6. SSS will show a summary of the details you've plugged in and the estimated amount of your benefit.
  7. Upload the Certificate of Live Birth/Certificate of Death from LCR or PSA on the same page.
  8. Click the check box to certify that your information and documents are accurate.

You should receive email updates from SSS about your filing, including when they credit your maternity benefit to your GCash.

You can also track your claim on My.SSS:
