Beyond Earth Day: adidas Originals and Parley for the Oceans Team Up for a New Collection
In a move to make sure exercise footwear also closes the gap, they present “today’s icons, made for tomorrow”
adidas Originals is taking on 2022 with long-time partner and non-profit environmental organization Parley for the Oceans. To usher in Earth Day 2022 and continue its pledge as a greener brand, adidas Originals returns this April with a new release of iconic styles, all “reimagined for a better tomorrow.”
In a press release, adidas Originals Philippines shares: “This season, the brand with the Three Stripes and Parley have come together to bring signature looks—from the Superstar to the Stan Smith, the Nizza to the Forum and many more—firmly into the future.”
Given adidas’ goal to close the gap and endeavor to be more sustainable, overall, each sneaker in the Spring/Summer 2022 collection has been made special with yarns containing at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic. This means each shoe is made of repurposed plastic waste that’s “intercepted on remote islands, beaches, coastal communities and shorelines, preventing it from polluting our ocean.” The other 50% of the yarns is comprised of recycled polyester.
The main highlight of the collection include two updated interpretations of the iconic Nizza silhouette: the Nizza Parley Hi and Nizza Parley Lo. These take on a refreshed and more efficient approach to material construction, where both pairs feature a wrapped webbing that’s assembled layer by layer to minimize waste in the production process. “The rest of the collection then plays host to a series of innovative takes on the Superstar, Nizza Hi, Stan Smith, ZX 8000, Forum Mid, Forum Low, and NMD_R1, as well as two women’s exclusives: the Forum Bold W and Nizza Platform W,” adidas Originals goes on to share. “Made-up in sleek black and white colorways, each sneaker is one is one step toward helping waste to not stay waste.”
This is “today’s icons, made for tomorrow.” The adidas Originals by Parley Spring/Summer 2022 collection dropped on April 22, 2022, with a rollout scheduled across different markets throughout the coming months. For more information, visit the adidas Originals website.
