Here Are The Best Narratives From The Boston Major

DOTA 2 ends the year with a bang

The last Major of the year and first of the season featured upsets, heroic underdogs and more. In case you missed the Major as it happened, here are the biggest highlights.

WarriorsGaming.Unity carries SEA to Top 8.

With Philippine bet Execration losing their invitation slot due to visa problems, many fans instead supported the SEA teams at the Boston Major. Among those was WG.Unity, a Malaysian team that won an upset against Mineski-Dota in the SEA qualifiers. Compared to the big-name teams at the Major, such as international powerhouses OG and Evil Geniuses, WG.Unity is relatively unknown outside of the SEA scene. Against all odds however, lasting longer than Korean favorites MVP Phoenix and qualifiers first-placers Team Faceless, WG.Unity made it to top 8. They were eliminated by eventual tournament champions OG, but not before taking a game off of the heavily favored team. This just proves our region can rumble with the best of them.

Lil_HaRDy throws down the gauntlet.

Virtus.Pro came off of a dominant qualifiers run to suddenly become one of the top teams at Boston. After also going undefeated in the group stages and first round of the playoffs, the team's support player Lil_HarDy had this to say to opponents in the pre-match interview: "Just call GG at minute one. Don't waste our time."
Arrogant? Perhaps. But there's no denying Virtus.Pro had been crushing opponents so far. It's only a lil embarassing that when they were eliminated by Evil Geniuses, their first game was lost in only 19 minutes, the fastest GG in the tournament. It seems EG didn't waste their time, as requested.

The Greeks steal the show.

From mediocre EU team to near-unanimous fan-favorites in Boston, Ad Finem captured audiences' hearts when they made it all the way to the finals beating out the favored Digital Chaos. Second place in a Major is the farthest the Greek team has ever gotten on the world stage and it showed: after every match captain SsaSpartan was beating his chest and jumping around in the player booth in celebration. Despite the eventual loss to OG, Ad Finem still showed that gods can bleed by taking one game off of the champions in a breathtaking and absolutely epic 70-minute game 3.
