Our Early Bets For NBA 2017-2018 Rookie Of The Year

The NBA Preseason proved these rookies have what it takes

The NBA Preseason always kicks off the new year and, more importantly, shows us what the new generation of rookies has to offer. The last couple of days have only proven what these boys have to offer and we’re already placing our bets for this season’s Rookie of the Year.

Ben Simmons (Philadelphia 76ers)

Preseason stats: 7 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds

A potential triple-double threat, Ben Simmons could very well lead the Sixers offense this year. With a unique passing and rebounding talent, Simmons scores points using transition, drives and second chances to make up for his lack of one-on-scoring. Coach Brett Brown could give him the responsibility of point-guard, which will give the Sixers versatility to play tall with him or play small ball with Markelle Fultz.

Dennis Smith Jr. (Dallas Mavericks)

Preseason stats: 10 points, 1.7 assists, 2 rebounds, 45.5 3-point percentage

In the months leading to this year’s NBA Season, Dennis Smith Jr. definitely got our attention. His explosiveness and exciting summer league is a clear indication that he will make an impact on the Maverick’s position. As the team’s lead guard, he is likely to put up some impressive minutes that are sure to put him in the spotlight.

Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics)

Preseason stats: 9 points, 2 assists, 4.5 rebounds

The Boston Celtics traded Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Isaiah Thomas in a move that created room for the Boston’s wing rotation—a space that Jason Tatum will help fill. Tatum’s footwork has been called next-level and it’s clear to see why this is so. While some argue that Tatum is a raw prospect, his previous double-scoring stats say otherwise and this is likely to win him some votes.

Kyle Kuzma (Los Angeles Lakers)

Preseason stats: 21 points, 0.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds, 35.7 3-point percentage

While Kyle Kuzma may not be the rookie fan favorite from the Lakers, he definitely has a clear and solid following—which is well placed, to say the least. Many have admitted that when Kuzma gets hot on the court, there is no stopping him. You only need to look at his scoring average to prove this and he has become a reliable player as a result. He was a late pick in the first round, but the Lakers may have found their diamond in the rough.

Lonzo Ball (Los Angeles Lakers)

Preseason stats: 6.5 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 25 3-point percentage

Lonzo Ball’s family history may have helped him get the spotlight in this year’s draft and his stats prove that he may not be the best scorer, but he is arguably one of the best passers from his draft class and this will make an all-around impact on the Lakers. It’s likely that he will receive credit for the team’s overachieving as he will become a primary decision-maker and playmaker.

Markelle Fultz (Philadelphia 76ers)

Injured for Preseason games

Sure, Markelle Fultz didn’t participate in this year’s NBA Preseason due to an ankle injury, but everyone has their eyes on this upcoming rookie. His 6-foot-10-inch wingspan gives him a physical advantage and his offensive repertoire is almost unmatched in his class. He’s a shot-creator that can produce points almost at will. We’re definitely going to see more from him.

The NBA Preseason is almost over and we can’t wait to see these players really begin to shine on the professional court.
