Proof That Elfrid Payton Is NBA’s Next Big Thing

This is someone you definitely need to look out for

How do you know when someone is going to be the next big thing? It’s when someone shows potential, love for their craft and willpower to keep getting better. This is the story of Orlando Magic’s Elfrid Payton, who has already made a name for himself despite his young career.

He made his own path.

On February 22, 1994, Elfrid Payton Jr. was born in Gretna, Louisiana. He grew up with five sisters and had a lot to live up to because his father, Elfrid Sr., is a Canadian Football Hall-of-Famer. Despite that hanging over his head, he pursued basketball instead. He now plays for the Orlando Magic as their point guard.

He’s been given awards left and right.

Before he even joined the NBA, Payton was already doing great things in the sport. He won the gold medal at the 2013 FIBA Under-19 World Championship as a member of the US National team.

He can be trusted to pull his weight.

In 2015, he participated in the Taco Bells Skills Challenge during that year’s NBA All-Star Weekend. And then for both 2015 and 2016, Payton represented Team USA in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge.

His talent is undeniable.

Payton was selected 10th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 NBA Draft, but was then traded to Orlando Magic. During his rookie year, he played in 82 games and started in 63. And then in the 2015-2016 season, he played a total of 73 games and started in 69 of them. He has a current career average of 10.8 PPG, 6.5 APG and 4.2 RPG.

And he’s only getting started.

With only three seasons under his belt, Payton has a bright future ahead of him in basketball. There’s nowhere to go but up and his stats have only been getting better and better as the years go on. We assure you, Payton is one to watch out for.
