Kyrie Irving: What The Birthday Boy’s Been Up to

Happy birthday, Uncle Drew!

Kyrie Irving goes by a lot of names, including Mr. 4th Quarter, Uncle Drew, Kyriediculous and Mr. Overtime. And while he gained all of these titles through his talent on court, today we’re calling him something else: Birthday boy.

Born on March 23, 1992 in Australia to Elizabeth and Drederick Irving, Kyrie became a standout player during his time at Duke. And then in 2011, he was the first overall pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers and then named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2012. The following year, he made his NBA All-Star debut and then helped the Cavs to their championship in 2016.

Before NBA Season 2017-2018, Kyrie was traded to the Boston Celtics and currently has an average of 24.4 points per game with a field goal percentage of 49.1 percent and 5.1 assists per game.

We’re used to Kyrie killing it on the court, but this year this dance-loving ankle breaker is giving us a gift that’s as big as the big screen: Uncle Drew.

Premiering in June 2018, Uncle Drew follows the story of Dax (Lil Rel Howery) after he drains his life savings to enter his team in the Rucker Classic Street Ball Tournament in Harlem. A curveball is thrown his way when his lifelong rival steals his team away and Dax becomes desperate to win the competition and its cash prize.

With things finally looking up, Dax stumbles upon an older Kyrie Irving and convinces him to return to the court one more time. To round up the rest of the now-senior NBA squad, Kyrie and Dax embark on a road trip to get Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson and Lisa Leslie back into the game—and prove that these aged veterans have more than a little jump left in their step.

Currently placed second in the Eastern Conference, Kyrie and the Boston Celtics are poised and ready to make it to this year’s NBA Playoffs. It’s too early to tell how they’ll fair and if the team will make it to the 2017-2018 Season Finals, but we know that Kyrie will be front and center, making his shots and calling the plays.
