Doesn’t matter whose side you’re on; it was a great game

The world thought it was going to be a sweep—but we knew better. Throwback to the Finals last year when the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead and handed the Cleveland Cavaliers their first championship since the 60s. The NBA 2017 Finals could have been a repeat of last year as Cleveland took Game 4 from Golden State. But the Warriors proved there is strength in numbers and beat the defending champs in Game 5. Here’s a look back at our favorite moments.

Game 4: Cleveland Cavaliers win 137-116

The Cavs handed the Warriors their first loss of the postseason in Game 4 with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James taking the lead. Irving scored an impressive 40 points, James grabbed a triple-double and the rest of Cleveland gave an epic offensive performance, thus leading to a 137-116 victory.

Game 5: Golden State Warriors win NBA 2017 championship

Kevin Durant led Golden State to its 129-120 victory in Game 5, finishing the series 4-1. Scoring 39 points, KD not only won his first NBA title but was also unanimously named the 2017 Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP. But LeBron James also made headlines as the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in The Finals.

Kevin Durant is named The Finals MVP

28-year-old KD was the Golden State’s top scorer in every game of The Finals, averaging 35.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting 60 of 102 from the field. Durant was a unanimous pick for the award decided by a panel of 11 media members thanks to his epic performance in the fourth quarter of Game 3.

Championship parade

The Warriors’ championship parade took place the day after their victory, starting in Oakland and following the same route they did to celebrate their NBA 2015 title. And though Golden State is moving to San Francisco, fans are just happy they’re still in the Bay.
