Offseason Highlights: This Year’s Biggest Trades
The offseason has never been this exciting
The Golden State Warriors took home the NBA Championship in season 2016–2017, and the rest of the teams are now scrambling to try and catch up for next year. This means a bit of chaos is going on in the offseason, largely because of the free agents.
Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves
Minnesota is in a drought; it’s been 13 years since the Timberwolves last stepped on the Playoffs court, but the recent addition of Jimmy Butler might revive the team. In the past three seasons of his career, he finished as one of the top 20 players in terms of win shares. In the 2016–2017 season, he even ranked third.
Butler is consistent and he knows how to bring a team to victory. The question is whether or not he can work his magic with Minnesota next year.
Paul George to Oklahoma City Thunders
Paul George was a superstar for the Indiana Pacers, but his trade to the Oklahoma Thunders was finalized just recently. It’s rumored that this trade is just one step towards getting back to Los Angeles to play for the Lakers.
Oklahoma risked trading George without gaining any assets after the upcoming season, so this move made particular sense for the team.
Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets acquired Chris Paul in a move that will definitely strengthen their case for a championship next year. Paul now joins James Harden, which means that the Rockets have two All-Stars on their side of the court.
Dwight Howard to Charlotte Hornets
As a player that doesn’t exactly stick to one team, it was more about where Dwight Howard was going next. At the start of the season, there were rumors that Howard would be making way to New Orleans—talks that, if real, evidently did not materialize.
D’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn Nets
He was one of the top picks during his Draft year and spent two years honing his talent with the LA Lakers. But now D’Angelo Russell is moving onto the Brooklyn Nets, a team that is eager to continue developing his talent.
