Wondering how to get a digital version of the Philippine National ID? Although there isn't a specific online registration process yet, the good news is you can quickly get a digital copy as long as you’ve signed up for the physical ID from the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

This guide will provide you with the latest updates, requirements, and a step-by-step process to help you access your digital National ID.

Currently, the only requirement to obtain a digital National ID is a PhilSys registration. If you’ve registered, here are the steps to acquire the digital version.

1. Go to national-id.gov.ph and enter your first, middle, and last names and date of birth. Click "Continue."
2. Read the on-screen instructions including a photosensitivity warning for taking a live selfie. Remove your glasses or hat, but hijabs are allowed. 
3. Click “Start Liveness” and position yourself in the center of the frame. You may be asked to “move closer" to the camera.
4. Lights and colors will flash on your screen once you see the “hold still” command. This is the facial recognition process, and you should see a congratulatory message if successful. (If you’re not registered, you’ll see a “verification failed” message.)
5. Click the "View National ID" button to see your ID as if you had the physical one. The front of the digital card contains your full name, date of birth, address, photograph, and national and digital ID numbers. The back has your sex, blood type, and marital status. The digital card's front and back show a QR code.

You can also access and view your digital National ID through the eGovPH, which is available on Google Play and the App Store.

PhilSys will need an ID or document to prove that you are who you say you are. Any of the following IDs or documents may suffice for PhilSys registration.

• Philippine passport or passport issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)
• Unified Multi-Purpose ldentification (UMID) Card issued by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)
• Social Security System (SSS)
• Student's License Permit or Non-Professional/Professional Driver's License issued by the LTO
• PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth and one government-issued identification document that bears a full name, front-facing photograph, and signature or thumb mark

If you don't have any of the above, PhilSys will accept secondary supporting documents. But they must have a: 

• Front-facing photograph
• Signature/thumbmark
• Your full name
• Permanent address
• Date of birth

Some examples are your employee, school ID, or barangay clearance/certificate. You can see the complete list of secondary supporting documents on the PhilSys website.

Bring your supporting documents to a PhilSys Registration center. To find one nearest you, visit philsys.gov.ph. Look under "Registration" and click "Registration Process."

There’s no need to schedule an appointment. You can drop by a PhilSys registration center during office hours at your convenience. Some mall-based centers operate on weekends.

After PhilSys personnel reviews and validates your supporting documents, they’ll capture your biometric information: fingerprint, iris scan, and front-facing image.

Keep your TRN slip safe as it's essential for tracking your physical ID delivery. You can use your TRN to track the delivery of your physical ID at the Philippine Post Office Tracking website.

Before you leave the PhilSys registration center, ask when you can access your digital National ID. If you can’t connect to the website during the date you were told, the website's server may be busy. Give it another week and try again during non-peak hours.

You’re not required to get a digital copy of your National ID. But having one offers these advantages.

The digital National ID has the "same functionality and validity" as the physical format. It can be used for government transactions, passport applications, and bank account openings. For example, GCash accepts both formats of the National ID to verify your identity on its app.

Government agencies and private establishments can perform a National ID verification using the QR code at the National ID eVerify website. 

With a digital version, your National ID is always with you since you can access it on your phone. You can also use it without the physical card.
